gastric bypass vs. C-section
I will admit up front....I am a total wimp when it comes to pain. My gastric bypass, though completely complication free, was the worst experience of my life. The pain was unbearable from the time I woke up until several days later. Pain meds seemed to help for a little while, but then I was hurting again. I didn't feel like doing anything for 2 weeks except lay in bed and cry.
How does the pain and recover of a C-section compare to what you experienced with weight loss surgery? I know everyone is different, but just hoping some of you can share your experiences. Thanks in advance!

I thought that my recovery from my c-section which was pre wls surgery was easy not that my recovery from wls was horrible but both were managable and I never took pain meds once I left the hospital with either. That liquid vicodin they give you to take would make me puke and my pain wasnt that bad, for me it was the fear of it being bad that made me take it. I truly believe that if you think its going to be unbearable it will be but if you stay positive and have faith in yourself and your body then that may make it a little easier!!
With my 11 month old daughter, I had to have an emergency c-section due to scar tissue and Mischa getting stuck. I was fully recovered and back to work at 6 weeks post-delivery. With my RNY, I was fully recovered and back to work after 2 weeks. I'm assuming everyone is difference. The pain with my c-section was way worse.
Proud mama of Mischa and Gabriel, both born post-op.
Personaly for me my csection was worse than my rny. My rny was lap and I was uncomfortable but pain wasn't bad. The csection being an open surgery was horiable. Not being able to move much unless I was on pain meds and having to take care of a newborn when all u want to do is lay in bed. Its all about your pain tollarance. By 6 weeks post partum I was feeling better
I had lap band, but I still think the pain from that was worse than the C section. I'm not one that likes to take too much pain meds, but for the first few days home from the hospital, I took it like clockwork when I was allowed to take it, then started spacing it out farther. The trick is to not let the pain get too bad. As soon as you feel a little uncomfortable, take something, otherwise it will get bad and then it takes a while for the meds to kick in. Really the most uncomfortable part was getting up and down from the bed or a low chair. This will be my 3rd C section but I'll be having a tubal and a hernia repair all at the same time, so it may be even more painful, I'm not sure. I'm planning on taking the meds whenever I need to. The last thing I need to be is hormonal, sleep deprived, and in pain.
I had the sleeve done laproscopically and was surprised by how much more pain I was in than after my c-section. I'm typically a fast/easy healer and I hurt after my sleeve for a good 5 weeks at the one incision. After my c-section I was up and around in days, doing laundry by the time I got home from the hospital. However, that being said... after a c-section you have a beautiful new baby to distract you, whereas after WLS you're foodless and grumpy, wondering "wtf did I do?". I'm sure this makes a difference. Good luck!
For me personally my c-section was far worse. I was in labor for 40 hours before they did the c-section four years ago. I guess we just don't realize just how much you use your stomach muscles for. lol It was hard to get in and out of bed, sit and stand.
I had an open VSG 14 months ago, and I was back at work in less than two weeks later with no problem. I would have weight loss surgery as opposed to a c section any day of the week.
