Fertility issues after surgery
My husband and I had issues. I am now very pregnant...but it took almost 5 years and IVF. However, we never tried before surgery...and most women are superfertile after surgery. I am more inclined to think it has nothing to do with surgery, just ****ty luck.

My surgery (RNY) was in 2006. We never tried to get pregnant until a few years ago. I don't think it was surgery-related in my case; I'm 41. I never had a diagnosis other than age, but we had to do IVF eventually, too. If anything, I think my weight loss helped... I'm only 8 weeks along right now, but I'd never be so good about my health for pregnancy if I hadn't already had to be on top of it for the gastric bypass stuff.
RNY in June of 2006. Lost 100 lbs and maintaining. "Good carb" veggie diet + fish.Fertility issues (due to age) for 3 years. 1 m/c. Tried IUI and IVF. Currently pg and due January 2013. Taking Bariatric Advantage chewable multivitamin, iron, Calcium citrate, dry Vitamin D, and Omega-3 (salmon oil). My avatar is a picture of my Bast statue; Bast is an Egyptian fertility goddess who protects cats and pregnant women. :)
I had 2 babies pre op and all he had to do was look at me and I was pregnant. We decided we wanted another one, and it took 7 months of trying and really timing it to get it. I tried Pre Seed and it took that to finally get pregnant. I know it is not the same as your years of trying, but it was stressful all the same.
I would have never gotten pregnant before surgery (not for lack of trying) because I was so overweight with PCOS so bad I would have like one cycle per year. After WLS my cycles became much more normal but my PCOS didn't go away and I still needed the help of a fertility specialist. At least it can happen after WLS! I don't think a specialist would have even helped me 150+ pounds ago.
Good luck to you! I hope you are able to get the extra help you need to have a baby!

Thanks ladies! I just can't help wondering if any levels might be low due to malabsortion. I know that my potassium, b12, and vitamin d are prone to being low so I have to take prescription strengths of those every so often. I get them check every 6 months with my PCP and the last one that was low was vitamin d. I just want it so bad that I keep thinking that there has to be something that I can do to "fix" it.
I too am having trouble conceiving. I have a daughter who is 13. When I had her I was overweight. I feel so good now post rny surgery I too keep looking for something to fix. Thinking maybe I'm not supposed to have another I too have a consult in for fertility. I have had PCOS my whole life so I doubt that is what is causing me not to get pregnant. Keep us posted. I would like to hear what you find out
