Pregnancy without a period

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone on here got pregnant without getting a period. I know it is not as likely to happen but it still can.

My husband and I are generally being careful but I am not on birth control and don't plan on going on it. I had my surgery Sept 26, 2011.

Thanks

Jenn

Just a FYI, most woman become VERY fertile after having surgery and often need to use 2 forms of birth control! It almost always takes away womens fertility issues too! If you don't want to become pregnant early out from your surgery, I would suggest you at least use condoms until your ready and at a safe point out from having surgery!

Pregnancy without a period is EXTREMELY rare.  Pregnancy requires perfect timing and ovulation.  Typically if you do not have a period, you are not ovulating.  That being said, you should talk to your OB.  You should be VERY careful not to get pg during your 1st year at least.  Most Bari surgeons suggest waiting 18-24 months post-op before trying to conceive.  Your body is in significant shock after WLS for several months.

Congrats on your recent WLS and stay focused on getting yourself healthy!

I know one poster on here got pregnant  with her first without having periods (or at least anything resembling regular cycles). I didn't have a period for 3 years until I had WLS, then started having them again one month out. 6-7 months out I was pregnant (while on the depo shot!). There seem to be frequent posts about conceiving too early out from WLS and although it often does work out, it should NEVER be taken lightly or left up to chance. I wish you the best of luck and if it is a baby that you are wanting, I hope it happens when your body is ready for it. Take care!

I guess I would have to say I'm one of those RARE few. I had my WLS in Jan 2007. I was married at the time and we didn't use any type of protection and I had to take a round of birth control every 3 months to induce. Well, long story short I got divorced and remarried. I had been wanting to have a child for a very long time, but it wasn't happening. Even after surgery, I never had regular periods and my PCOS never went away. Well, needless to say in March of 2010 I had gotten my period through using birth control. I went 3 months and on June 13th, tested and BFN. So, took a round of birth control to induce again. After I finished the 3 weeks of pills, I went the entire 4th week without any sign of my period coming. I was TOTALLY freaking out...I was thinking ovarian cysts or even cancer, but never even thought preggo since I didn't have a period and had a BFN the month prior. Well, on the 7th day (July 14th) of not getting my period, I tested again...and what to my wondering eyes should appear- a BFP (and not just one but 11 of them!!!) LOL I was in total shock! And in February of 2011 I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, Landen James. He was perfect and I had an amazingly easy pregnancy. I did have a tubal done during my c-section, so he's my only baby, but I NEVER knew I ovulated and spent 3 years with my ex not trying but not protecting and 2 years with my current husband doing the same.

God works in mysterious ways ;)

BTW: Nice surgery date- it's my bday :)
