Preggo RNY'ers...

OK... I totally thought after the gastric bypass that I would never have heartburn or acid reflux again.  I used to have it reeeeeeally bad for years.  I lived on multiple doses of zantac 150 each day years ago.  Then i was diagnosed with sleep apnea and got a cpap machine.  Once I got that, the acid reflux mostly went away and i only had to take the zantac maybe once a month.  Then when i had my RNY... totally & completely gone.   Yay!

Then last night i had this horrible feeling in my stomach and chest.  I took my vitamins late yesterday... around 6pm.  My prenatal makes me burp a little, but nothing too bad normally.  Well about 25 mins after i took my vites, i burped w/my mouth closed and puff of vitamin powder puffed out of my nose.  It was so funny and gross at the same time.  I could feel the powder in my throat... yuk!  Well then about an hour later i got that bleh stomach feeling and in my throat.  I had no clue what it was.  Then after a while it finally dawned on me... I'm preggers and I have heartburn!  waaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!  I bought some tums today.

Did any other RNY mommies get heartburn during their post op pregnancy?

I dont think I had any heartburn this time.. mostly aversions to anything spicy or greasy since it would make me wanna gag. haha peralps that was my body's way of saving its self. pre-op I had heart burn super bad with my 1st but none with my 2nd In fact all I wanted was spicy hot hot foods with him. I teased my hubby that he would come out a mexican.
sry bout the heartburn, hopefully it will ease up some, that 1st trimester is a biatch!

My surgeon keeps his patients on the omeprazole beyond a year to help prevent ulcers. I only felt anything like heartburn one time. My surgeon and ob said it was ok to stay on it.

I had Severe GERD pre op. Surgeon has me on Protonix for other stomach issues post op. The heartburn has come back, not to the extreme it was but it's there so I continue to take the Protonix daily and tums when needed!

Thanks ladies.  I'm just sad that the whole "never have heartburn again" backfired. :-(  Oh well... at least the morning sickness is over.

I never had heartburn before and now I have it enough to need the tums nearby.  But only the minty ones, everything else just seems to make it worse. But congrats, it's part of the fun right?
