Were you considered high risk?

I had vsg over two years ago and I will be 32 weeks pregnant tomorrow.  My ob is not considering me high risk.  My two friends who had vsg as well and got pregnant went to a different practice than I do and were considered high risk.  I didn't think it would be an issue, but I fell and had to go in to get monitored, where they did an u/s and I have a high fluid level (not bad yet just on the high end).  So my ob sent me for a growth scan and the baby is measuring small (the tech kept commenting on how small his abdomen was). I don't know if any of this is surgery related or if anything would be different if I was considered high risk but I just want the best for my baby and not sure what to do...  Wondering what is going on,

I have VSG plus some malabsorption, AND I've been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the past, and I am NOT considered "high risk." I think it all depends on what your specific doctor/practice is used to handling, and what is outside of their comfort zone. Being "high risk" usually just means additional monitoring, which wouldn't have affected the amount of fluid or baby's size. Also, baby size measurements are more inaccurate later in pregnancy, so I wouldn't freak out about it  :)  I have a younger cousin who weighed LESS THAN A POUND when she was born, and she is now an adult with two healthy kids of her own. And, especially since you only have a VSG, I highly doubt any of it is related to your surgery.

What I have seen heard and realized your only high risk from surgery if one your less then 7 months out from surgery and not putting weight on.If you have twin pregnancy's or cervix issues time and time again or placenta previa,or the doctor seems to think something may be wrong with baby or your doctor is just scared because you have had weight loss surgery.Mine never figured me to be high risk tell I got pregnant with twins and my cervix opening and because that they have keep me high risk with this pregnancy and have been watching cervix.

If your fluid levels are off that would be a high risk issue because those doctors go more into depth with measuring and weighting of the baby then a normal OB would.

Sending prayers to you!

I got pregnant 10 months out from my surgery and am not considered high risk. Matter of fact my Dr. is a little less concerned than I think he should be about my labs and such...

But so far having a seemingly normal pregnancy as far as baby goes. My self my labs are kind of in the toilet and I really have to work on weight gain but it isn't affecting the baby thus far at 26 weeks. matter of fact my fundal Height is measuring 2 weeks ahead. So baby is GROWING!

Each OB has a different definition of "high risk."  Technically, i'm considered high risk - not because of my RNY (got pg 25 mos post op) but because i'm over 40 (i'm 41.)  My OB said it's not a big deal. She's been seeing me for over 6 yrs and saw me when I was 325 lbs and had to take meds just to have a period.  Now I'm extremely healthy and she's very confident my pregnancy will be a very healthy one.  It's just the age.  She's treating me like I'm not high risk unless something comes up that causes her to treat me as high risk.  The benefit in my mind is that i'm getting a detailed anatomy scan from a high risk OB specialist in 6-8 wks.  Bonus!  Totally works for me.

I guess it really depends.  I had gastric bypass  8.5 years ago and I am 35 years old and I am considered high risk.  Age is ot so much the factor now as the surgery.  I have had  4 or more ultrasounds to check the anatomy and growth of the baby.   I am now 30 weeks and I will be going back for another ultrasound at 31  weeks, which is next week.  I am glad I have had the opportunity to get to see my baby so often and everything has been checking out well.  Doc said most of the growth happen in the last trimester so it appears that they will be seeing my throughout my  last trimester.  I also had the 3d/4d and my baby is looking healthy far as size.

I got pregnant 6 months post sleeve.  I was not considered high risk at all.  I had a very uneventful pregnancy and neither my OB nor my surgeon had any sleeve related concerns.  I had a healthy baby boy 7 weeks ago and he is perfect.  He was even a little bigger than my first baby (pre wls).  Good luck with your pregnancy.
