Just wanted to say hi to everyone, I am here working on the next part of my new life. I was banded 12/09 (realize band). I have lost over 100lb and although I am still on my weight loss journey with the last 40lbs, I am hoping for my first baby. So question... Has anyone had a negative pregnancy test and been pregnant after all? When I was pregnant before I never got a postive result via HPT. The pregancy ended at approx 12 weeks in misscarriage, seems like I had to get a blood test to find out.

HPT's measure HCG in your urine. Some tests measure at 50, others at 75. You need a good concentrate of HCG to have a positive reading on your test. Early in pregnancy your body doesn't secrete a lot of it. The earlier the pregnancy and the more diluted the urine can both lead to a false negative. This is why you're supposed to use first of the morning urine- it's more concentrated. A blood test is always a definitive- HCG can't be diluted in it. It too****il about 8 weeks before a HPT picked up for me, and I knew I was weeks late.

Good luck! I am a band patient too and those last 40lbs are killers! lol I got to goal and stayed there for about 4 years or so, got pregnant and am up those forty pounds again. I am ready to get rid of it once again! Running was my key. Congrats on the 100lbs!!! That's awesome!!

I took three (yes, THREE) First Response home pregnancy tests, and ALL of them came up negative (and, no, they weren't expired - I checked!). I had a blood test drawn the SAME DAY as the second home test I took, and my HCG levels came back in the THOUSANDS -  I was in the neighborhood of 7-8 WEEKS pregnant! Yet, all three home tests were negative.

I did some Dollar Tree tests instead, and they came up positive. So much for the expensive ones...
