Soo I'm more than a year post op (lapband) and 2 months pregnant. I reached my weight loss goal and was able to get myself healthy enough to try to conceive.

When my family and friends respond to my GOOD NEWS why do they say..."you worked so hard to loose all that weight!!!" I have a 5 yr old already and my husband and i are so excited we were able to conceive again. I knew i had to loose the weight in order to get pregant and to be healthy. So why arent these people happy for me!???

It's frustrating and I dont want to get defensive but i feel like they are expecting me to gain all this weight back. Of course im going to gain a little but i hate that i am on the watchful eye now.

How do I respond to this?? Please help...

The appropriate response is, "Yes, I did work hard, and now I can have a healthy pregnancy and I have a tool that can help me moderate my pregnancy weight gain and help me lose weight again once I give birth."

Banded 03/22/06  276/261/184 (highest/surgery/lowest)

Sleeved 07/11/2013  228/165 (surgery/current) (111lbs lost)

I had a similar reaction when I got pregnant after surgery. I think as time goes on and you find the sex out, etc., they will come around and be just as excited as they were for your 5 year old. Good luck!

I agree with what Dev said!  And, don't listen to them.  Enjoy every second of this wonderful gift!!  I got similar responses and was so hurt and angry because I was so overjoyed that we were blessed with another baby.

People just don't think sometimes!!

I agree completely with the above posts.  I am only 5 months post op and 7 weeks pregnant.  So, I've heard all that--"why did you have the surgery just to get pregnant??"  But, that's exactly one of the reasons I did have the surgery.  My husband and I were not able to get pregnant before the surgery. Of course, we didn't expect it to happen so soon, but we are blessed to have gotten pregnant in the first place.  Don't worry about them ( I know that's easier said than done), you know why you did it and apparently it has worked like a charm.  Now you can have the healthy pregnancy you've always wanted!!  Congrats and good luck!

BTW:  how do  I add a baby ticker to my profile??  Can anyone help??
