Since my baby's almost 8 months, I guess it's a good time to post.
This will probably turn out to be a long post, sorry.
About 8 months after my surgery (VSG) I asked my surgeon when we could start TTC as I was about to be 34 and we really wanted one more child (we have a son who is about to be 5 and I had three miscarriages prior to my WLS). He said, at that point, that because I had lost over 100 lbs and because of the VSG not removing and intestines allowing for prenatals to be properly absorbed, that we could start trying any time now. Two weeks later I got a positive test. I think we both (my sugeon and I) thought it would take a little longer but it is what it is. And because much of my motivation behind the surgery was to have a healthy pregnancy and baby, we were thrilled!
I had HORRIBLE morning sickness for the first half of the pregnancy. Ended up in the ER and then L&D every other week or so with dehydration issues. Plus she was breech and actually laid sideways most of the second half of the pregnancy.
At 36 1/2 weeks I was having terrible pain and pressure. I thought for sure if I squatted and strained even a little, she'd drop right out. So I went to labor & delivery and they checked me out and I was a whopping TWO centimeters dilated. As I laid there, tears streaming down my face and gripping the bed rails in pain, they decided to give me Demirol for my pain. Now, after my son's (vaginal) birth they gave me Demirol in my IV because the pain from the repairs was just unbearable. It had such a strong effect on me that I passed out for about 6 hours and when I woke, I went to the bathroom and passed out there. I was like 351 lbs then. I don't know why it never occured to me that at 220 lbs Demirol might just have an even worse effect on me...but it definitely did. I passed out mid sentence, my BP dropped to 40/35, the baby's heartrate dropped dangerously low. I was out for about 5 minutes which my husband describes as the longest, scarriest 5 minutes ever. When I came to, my OB was there and they were shaking my tummy to get our daughter's heartrate back up. My OB happend to be on the floor doing a follow up visit with another patient. He looked at my pale self and said "I can't send you home and risk this happening there. Today's the day!" And less than an hour I was in the OR having a c-section. Josephine Belle was born on April 16th weighing 7 lbs 13 oz and 19 1/2 inches long. H got to hold her and I got to give her a kiss before they took her off to the NICU for respiratory issues. She was there just 4 days, though and we both got to come home together. She's perfect, y'all! Just perfect. Here's a recent picture of the two of us:
And her silliest Christmas pic:
As an aside, H had his sleeve April 4th. Yeah, it was a busy couple of weeks to say the least. ;)
At any rate, when my OB did the C-section, he did it up a bit higher because the excess skin covering the traditional incision sight would never have allowed it to heal. So when I had my tummy tuck and breast reduction, the c-section scar was completely removed AND my biggest scar from the sleeve fell nicely where my new belly button is. Woo hoo!
So my pregnancy stats:
Pre-preg: 230
20 weeks: 210
Post delivery: 225
Current: 189
If you have any questions at all about the pregnancy, c-section, tummy tuck/breast reduction, etc., I'd be glad to answer them! :)
