My Baby Boy has arrived :) Story and Pics!!
In 2008 I had RNY gastric bypass...we got pregnant in December of last year and I suffered a miscarriage..got pregnant again shortly after and on November 22, 2011 at 3:46 pm I gave birth to my son Gino Michael Marcantonio via C-section. He was 39 weeks, weighed 7lbs 1 oz and 20 inches long. The C-section was a repeat, I had my son pre-op in 2005 and at the time was 400lbs...this pregnancy was so much better although not complication free. I suffered from severe hypoglycemia. I was scheduled to go in for my C-section at 12 and due to other emergencies at labor and delivery I was pushed out. They brought me in at 8am to start an IV and give me sugar water because I hadn't had anything to eat since 1am the evening before and my sugars were only 55....they started the IV's and my sugars would get to 110 and then they would stop the drip thinking that it would last for awhile and within a half an hour they were down at 59...once they took me in for the surgery my sugars were 123 right when they brought me in. They gave me my spinal and next thing I know the nurse is yelling at me and someone else to stick me for a sugar check and they were down to 60 so the anesthesioligist pumped me full of something and they got my surgery going rapidly...he monitored it closely during the procedure. My son came out 5 minutes later screaming and eyes wide open with an apgar score of 9 :) He is truly beautiful. I was able to be with him in the recovery room shortly after. His sugar was a little low so they had to give him some formula but I did it via an SNS system so that I could stimulate my breasts for breastfeeding. I was pumping like crazy in the hospital for three days, I had a longer stay because I have a lot of loose belly skin and they were concerned about my incision and they wanted to get my sugars under control. I got home and my milk came in, my son went home at 6lbs 4 oz....but in the hospital we were using the SNS system with formula for his blood sugars. My breasts were so engorged we had to go back to the ER because I was starting to develop Mastitis...we got that problem alleviated and I was able to start breastfeeding. Gino started to change a little, seeming more pale and his eyes were a little hollow looking...he would also scream and scream and had really bad gas, and at this point was strictly breastfeeding...the more sickly he looked the more concerned I got...I havn't been able to keep down a lot of food since my surgery for some reason and so I was worried that he wasn't really getting any good nutrition. I asked the lactation consultants and they just said that there really isn't a lot known about breastfeeding after gastric bypass and some people are able to and others are not...I made the decision to stop and go back to formula. He is on gentle formula for the fussiness and gas and is doing really well...I am on the mend, I also had a tubal during my C-section so I have been a little sore. I have attached a few pictures...thank you everyone for your support...oh and I gained 60 pounds during the pregnancy...I will be three weeks out tomorrow and I still have to lose 40...which I will do :) I can't excercise yet but once I can it's on....:)
