 Teresa,
You picked 2 great, strong, "normal" names! People are just plain rude. Don't listen to them. Name your LO whatever you want. They will learn to love it!

I think they are both great names!!  Try not to let what they said/think bother you.  It's your child :)

Congrats on the new little one!  those names are awesome, and i totally hear you on the rude comments.  I get the worst comments from my own family.  We found the name for Sage at 36 weeks and didn't tell anyone that name at all.  So no one knew it until she was born, and that's what we're doing this time.  We will have a few name choices when we go in to have him but we wont name him until he was born, and wont tell anyone what we are considering.  it's easier that way, I cant stand the annoying comments.

That's why I didn't tell anyone the names we were even thinking of the first time around and I'll do it the same way this time. Once it's on the birth certificate, there's no point in anyone putting in any kinf od effort to get you to change your mind!

I am one of those people that is very opinionated about names, but I still don't make comments about them when people say what they decide...unless, I have positive comments to say. Otherwise I just nod and say "cool", or keep my mouth shut. The only time I make an exception is if someone asks for my opinion. Then, I'll be honest, but in a nice way. That's what your in-laws need to learn.

I am of the opinion, that getting others opinions is actually a good thing. The baby name book that I was going through (sorry I can't recall the name right now) emphasizes that, this is the name your kid has to live with for the rest of their lives so others opinions actually do matter. We ran our names by people and we get mostly good responses, but not all. And I am prepared for the "Um, OK"'s that we get because I asked. If you didn't ask for an opinion, then people need to keep their mouths shut!

That said , I have to say I like your names just fine. They aren't overused (one of my biggest criteria for a name) and they are not off the wall. They are good strong names. That's my unsolicited opinion!

Good luck!
