Frustrated with Doctors!

I'm so frustrated! I had gastric bypass 4 years ago and am 10 weeks pregnant. I went to my surgeon to find out what I need to do during pregnancy. What they told me totally contradicts what my OB has told me!  I need someone who specializes in gastric bypass and pregnancy. My ob knows nothing about gastric bypass and tells me all pregnancy related info and the other doctor does the opposite. Neither considering the other issue! I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I'm at a loss! I'm trying to make healthy decisions but feel like such a failure today! :-(

It's especially difficult to eat dense meat protein when I feel so sick all the time.  The thought of chicken, beef, turkey, etc. makes me sick.  I want to be healthy and do what's healthy for my baby but I have two issues here, gastric bypass and pregnancy. I need someone who understands both! Ugh!  How are y'all handling this?

if u cant handle meat get your protein from milk, cheese, eggs, penut butter, tofu, youguart. if u can tolarate these things better. as u get further along u may be able to tolarate meat again until then eat what u can for u and baby. i know it sucks when doctors dont know about one or the other. i lucked out the ob i had for most my pregnancy knew about both since he had dealt with wls patients. hope things get better.

Since surgery I am unable to tolerate milk products. I can do some cheese and have been.  I am also eating peanut butter.  I told the dr. today that hopefully things would get better in the second trimester but she just made me feel so guilty about everything I have been eating. All I can seem to tolerate is crackers and toast, especially in the a.m.  I can do smoothies and always add protein but she lectured me for the fruit in the smoothies. I was under the impression fruit was a good choice.  They said I need to be getting 100 grams of protein daily. Seems overwhelming!

Can you do beans?  I ate alot of bean in the first trimester of my pregnancy.  Meat seems hard to get down as well.  Now that I'm 19 weeks I can eat anything.

That's so frustrating! You know, you gotta eat what you can when you have morning sickness and put the guilt aside. Does that mean you should give up on protein, no, but if it makes you sick, it makes you sick. What are you gonna do? Eat what you can, take your vits and drink as much water as you can. 100 grams of protein is not very realistic at all. You need to find an OB that either knows about or is willing to educate themselves about RNY. You are 4 years out and not brand new, so this should not be a complication. Ask your OB if they have any colleagues or if they can recommend a doctor who is educated in pregnancy after RNY, your OB might just say they're willing to do the research. Good luck! Don't worry, being pregnant post WLS is not any worse than for "regular" peole. (0:
