Did anyone gain A LOT of weight during pregnancy and did it come off???
So when I first got pregnant my doctors told me that in there experience people who had RNY gastric bypass tended to gain less in pregnancy...I have found that personally to be anything but true. With my first baby which was pre-op I gained 100lbs...yes thats correct...WAY TOO MUCH! I got pregnant in December and had a miscarriage in January and I gained 12 pounds, how I don't know although I suspect it could have been from hormones or depression or a combination of both. I got pregnant again in March, I am 38 weeks and I have gained 54 pounds....:( In the beginning everything made me sick or want to throw up and I am hypoglycemic so I had to try to get stuff down. The only thing that I could tolerate well was carbs and McDs cheeseburgers...not good choices...I spent a lot of time lying down feeling awful. As I got farther along I found I could eat just about anything I wanted, and honestly the amount schocked me as well. I have TRIED to make healthy choices at least but Im not kidding when I say that I can eat more. Im worried I have stretched my pouch to the point of no return. It scares me to death. I haven't gained anything in the last 4 weeks...just stayed put and I have a scheduled C-section for the 22...but I was at the doctor on Friday and I am already 1 cm dialated, soft and 50% effaced with contractions getting stronger all the time...so we will see....everyone says that breastfeeding helps you lose weight...I have seen here however that is not always the case...I see people who have gained 15, 20, 35 all which to ME seems normal and reasonable...has anyone else gained A LOT..and managed to lose it?? How did you do it, how long did it take? I know that everyone is different...I just need some hope...
I'm feeling your pain... I will be just 15 weeks on Tuesday and i've already gained 20 pounds as of last friday. My endo is suggesting I may have to go on insulin. I have the same ?? as yourself. I'm afraid that the weight wont come off after. Good Luck with the delivery and I wish you all the best!!!
With my first baby, who is now 9 months old, I gained 40 lbs total and lost 60 lbs post-birth in 2 months. With this pregnancy, I'm about 20 weeks and I've gained 12 lbs so far. I'm honestly not worried about gaining weight during the pregnancy because it's healthy for the baby. I guess the biggest thing to do is to gain the "right" kind of weight but eating healthy, which is what I'm doing. Good luck to you!
Proud mama of Mischa and Gabriel, both born post-op.
With my pregnancy with my 3 year old, I gained around 35lbs and lost all but 8lbs by my 6 week check up.....only to gain another 12 pounds over the next 1.5 years before I got serious about my food, diet and exercise and dropped the 20lbs of excess weight. With this past pregnancy I gained around 45 pounds and lost 18lbs so far....but the scale seems to be stuck there. I still have 25-30lbs to loose before reaching my lowest pre-pregnancy weight. I hope most of it will come of realitively easy...but I know I will have to work on loosing some additional pounds like before. At the moment, I'm trying not to worry so much about it until I can get my feedings down with my newborn and get some type of schedule going.....then I will be more focused on my diet and exercise.
I gained 65lbs and have lost 30, so I have a good 35-40 to go. My scale is stuck and bounces up and down 5-7lbs. I have not been successful in losing, but I am still breastfeeding and do not to expect to lose since I do not get anywhere near the amount of Calories I need. I plan to BF for the whole year, so come February I hope to start losing again!
I gained 40ish lbs and lost all but 13 lbs 5 months out. I also have a c-section and then 6 weeks later my gallbladder out for another 4 weeks of exercise restriction. I did not breastfeed long either. I am hoping to lose these stubborn 13 lbs and then the last 15-20lbs I had to go til my goal.
But I am tired and a single mom so I do not get any motivation or energy to workout. I don't expect the weight to go anywhere for another 2-3 months.

Thank you everyone, I have all of these fears that I will not be able to do it...I know that is just my own personal demons but right now I feel out of control...I know I am pregnant, and it's almost over..but I worry that the bad habits will be easy continue after I have the baby and that I just won't have the will power to stop it...I even sit here and try to pre plan out what my diet is going to be while I am breastfeeding so that I will be eating the same amount of calories every single day and then I can lose weight....scary
I gained 35lbs in the pregnancy, and in 16 days post-delivery I've lost 19lbs. I'm exclusively breastfeeding and eating around 1600-1800 calories a day with at least 100oz of clear fluids. I'm eating all the same foods that I did in my pregnancy, and in my maintenance regimen. I drink a gingerale or a 7up every day, and nope, it's not the diet variety. I eat 4-5 small meals per day, and have only cut my intake of white carbs down since delivery. I still have saltine crackers with cheese and pepperoni or canadian bacon as a snack, but that's about the extent of my "white carb" intake. I am eating a yogurt (yoplait light) every day as well.
I had a csection so I was on a 2 week no activity restriction, and this week, I can start walking and lifting dumbbells not to exceed 8lbs so I'll start that this week.
I had VSG, but restriction was extremely lax at the end of the pregnancy, and it's coming back along with my hunger is going away which is so very nice.
