I went in for routine labs for my surgeon last Friday. They called me back on Monday and said, "Oh, btw...did you know that you're pregnant?" Very exciting news but also very unexpected since my husband and I always used TWO forms of birth control. Needless to say, I'm a bit stressed since I'm only 8 or so months out from my RNY Gastric Bypass. My doctors think I'm going to be fine but my OB/GYN wants me to raise my calorie intake from my daily average now (about 800) to 1800-2100!!! The only suggestions they could give me to do this was to eat more protein shakes and soup. I was wondering if anyone had any better suggestions then that. Not only would I not WANT to just start chowing down on Big Macs to get the extra calories, but I can't. The grease and fat makes me sick. Thankfully most of my dumping syndrome has gone away so I can eat fruits and drink fruit juice. Also, all my labs show that my vitamin intake is fabulous. I'm only four weeks out now and I want to do whatever I can to make this a healthy pregnancy. I welcome any suggestions you might have!

Im almost three years out but when i go in for my ob checks and the Dr checks my urine there is something or some way he can see if Im getting enough food and he will tell me I need to eat more and trust me I eat I eat every 2 hours and my meals. My meals are enough for me and the things I eat between meals are enough extra calories for the baby.Im sure as you get further along you will be able to get more food in just make good choices and best are proteins.
Goof luck and best wishes.

May my Angles rest in peace.....

Your OB is crazy! You only need to add an additional 300 calories right now and then towards the end of your pregnancy maybe add another 100 calories. Also eating every two hours helps big time! I have to or I get low BS and low BP.

Keep up with the veggies and fruits! Also carbs are a big factor so you can stay out of Ketosis.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!  I will be 6 weeks preggers on Sunday.  It is exciting and stressful.  I haven't seen my surgeon yet, but I did have my first OB appointment.  She recommended around 300 extra calories a day.  Proteins and other healthy items are super important.  I have been doing lean meats, cheeses, oatmeal, fruits, veggies, nuts, things that my new pouch likes and will be healthy calories for the baby!

I also agree with the freguent small meals.  I have also read that this helps with morning sickness.

Good luck and congratulations again.

As I saw you on the other post, I also JUST found out Im pregnant(with my 2nd) and Im 6 months out! Everything I eat is pretty much healthy, but already my body needs more food. Im hungry all the time and of course I cant physically eat more so I eat every 2-3 hrs to get more calories in. I just talked to my surgeon on the phone and she doesnt need to see me(just my regular 9 month check up) and my nutrisionist emailed me something on pregnancy after RNY(have to do it from another computer, then I'll share). Im 156 now and I knew what she(surgeon) was going to say, but it still made me sad. She said that I only had another 20 or so pounds to go and that probably the baby will be find because they will steal everything from me. To take all my vitamins and just eat healthy. Also suggested I'd see a high risk OB. I had a feeling Id be high risk, but it has nothing to do with OB, its because of malnutricion. It took me almost 3 yrs to conceive my daughter who is now 3 1/2, it took me 3 yrs to try #2 w no luck. Was going to wait until im a year out but we had an accident. Im terrified that it wont stick and something will happen( I was like that with my daughter too and had a perfectly healthy pregnancy and baby) even though I was 230 lbs when I got pregnant w her and gained 19. My surgeon also said I should gain 20-25 lbs and she made it sound like its a bad thing. Yes, it will suck bc I just finally lost the weight, but Im willing to put on weight to have a healthy pregnancy. So many emotions
