What are your thoughts on taking antidepressants during pregnancy? Have you taken them? What did you take? Do the benefits outweigh the potential risks to the baby?

I took prozac with my son with no problems. There are some antidepressants that have been proven safe for the baby and some that are not.

I'm on Lexapro.  My OB said its a very safe antidepressant to be on during pregnancy.  However, there are all of these crazy commercials from law firms scareing women about birth defects due to taking all these antidepressants.  When i expressed my concern to him, he said without drugs you have a 0.01% chance of having a baby with a birth defect and on Lexapro your baby has a 0.03% chance of being born with a defect.  He said its very minescule (sp?), and that if it was his wife or daughter who were pregnant he would want them to stay on the meds as well.  I completely trust my OB, as he's the womens health medical director at our enormous state of the art hospital in town.

After discussing it with him, i'm no longer concerned.
