Breastfeeding Moms-----PLEASE HELP!!!!
Tatum lost 8% of her birth weight within the first 4 days, and then my milk came in fully. I honestly just started shoveling in more calories via yogurt, and tanking up on water, and it seemed like overnight my milk just came in. I also started stimulating in the shower for 10-15 minutes with heavy, and hard massaging because I knew my supply was super low.
At her weigh in on Thursday, she had gained 2oz, I was supplementing 2 feedings with formula, but have been able to stop all supplementing. Her weight is stable as of today.
She started at 7lb 4.9oz, left the hospital at 6lb 8oz on Wednesday, was up to 6lb 10oz on Thursday and then today is up to 6lbs 12oz.
I'm so sorry I don't have any better advice, but Tatum did lose fast and hard, but seems to be on the upswing.

My son lost quite a bit and I was told I would have to supplement. When he did start gaining, he was very slow at first. I am terrible at pumping, I can't get anything, so that didn't work for me. I do eat oatmeal but I don't take anything else. What worked for me was making sure I am eating and drinking enough and nursing on DEMAND. Don't go buy the clock, take cues from your baby, even if he just nursed 30 minutes ago, if he is showing signs of being hungry, nurse him, don't wait. At the beginning I felt like I was nursing him every hour, and I really was but it helped get my supply up and he started puting on weight. He put on 2lbs 14oz in one month by doing that and I didn't have to supplement. He's now nursing every 2-3 hours so nursing all the time doesn't last forever. I nursed my first child until she was almost 3 and will try to do that with my son. Good luck and I hope it works out for you!!
I had this problem with my last baby. She continued to lose weight even though she was eating regular. I ended up having to pump all of my milk and there are little packets that you can get (they look like the packets of crystal light that you would add to a 16 oz. water bottle), you add them to the bottle of your pumped breast milk and it is extra calories for the baby. This way you still get to provide your breastmilk along with the calories the baby needs. Good luck!
