In place of a prenatal, I actually take two chewables (target brand flintstones).  Which have as much or more of everything that was in the prenatals I took for my first pregnancy (pre wls).  Being chewable they're easier to digest yet still have the iron (gummies don't have that).  Then I take calcium and vitamin D gummies.  These have to be taken at different times than the iron because the calcium and iron block each other for absorbtion.  I have a sleeve, so I'm not sure what other requirements RNY patients have.  Definitely check with your docs on this one, this is just what works for me.

I get confused with capsules, caplets, etc. But how I remember which ones we can and cannot take is if they have a shell of any type, those are the ones we can't absorb! Like Paula said, make sure your taking your calcium and iron at different times of the day as they counteract each other.....take them at least 2 hours apart. With myself, I take my complete multi-vitamin (continued with this instead of prenatal because all my labs looked good with my multi), sublingual B-12, iron, D3, folic acid and zinc 1st thing in the morning and then late morning or lunch time, I take a calcium supplement. Sometimes I take another calcium supplement later at night. Remember when taking a calcium supplement to get the kind that say calcium citrate rather than calcium carbonate as we don't absorb the latter.

I'm not sure but I think you can have some type of iron injection if your anemic instead of taking a pill form.

I am also an post RYN and am taking 2 flinstone chewables (supposed to at least) and 1 multi.  I have a super hard time with the chewable as it makes me throw up.  I have morning sickness from day one until the baby comes.  This time around is baby 4 and we finally got our girl AND she is a big ole MEANY I will tell you that much.  I have never been so sick in my life!
