Ok...soooo I am 36 weeks pregnant, got prego gained about 12 pounds and then had a miscarriage..the following cycle I found out I was pregnant again and now I am 36 weeks pregnant and I have gained 45 freakin pounds....but it's just stayed there...no up no down...I honestly am hoping it doesn't change in the next couple of weeks. Im worried about losing the weight. Obviously right now I eat differently because I am pregnant...has anyone experienced a weight gain of this much and did it come off?? How long did it take and what method was most successful in getting it off. I am aware that everyone is different, I really want to breastfeed but I keep hearing that it's really hard if you have had WLS...I had my son pre surgery 7 years ago and he never breastfed...diabetes, complications etc....this time I want to make it a priority and I know it is supposed to help with the weight loss...I just feel like I went through all of these changes and I am so scared to go backwards.....and Im worried that I am abnormal in the amount of weight I gained. With my son almost 7 years ago I gained 75 lbs...I am three years out from RNY....and to be honest I was completely surprised I gained as much as I did...has anyone else gone through this??

Well you are not alone. With my last post-op pregnancy I gained around 30-35 pounds and lost all of that but 8lbs by my 6 week check-up. Within the next 1.5 years I gained an additional 12lbs before I decided to get strict with myself. I began by increasing my water tremedously and cutting back my portion sizes. Then I started cutting out sweets, fatty foods, coffee and diet pop. Then I made sure to add protein shakes and make protein 1st priority and finally I began an exercise routine. By making these changes, I was able to loose the 20lbs in about 4-5 months. With this baby (born 5 days ago), I gained around 45lbs. I have no clue how much I will loose by my 6 weeks appt, but I do know, I know what I need to do to loose the additional weight. As far as breastfeeding goes, with my last born son, he ended up being a sleepy baby and didn't bring in my milk well enough to solely breastfeed, so I ended up switching to formula way before I wanted or planned to. With this baby, the nursing seems to be going much better and I see all the signs that it's going well....but time is the real teller. I just know that I wont beat myself up over it if it don't continue as long as I want it to. Bottom line is, some woman gain very little or no weight, some gain an average amount of weight and others gain more than intended. Just remember, your pouch will still work and you will find more restrictions once the baby is born and your hormones adjust back to normal (keep in mind if nursing goes well, you will still need to eat more than normal). You wont hold onto all the pregnancy weight, but might have a hard time loosing some of it....this means you will just have to work harder to loose the weight. Some woman drop the pregnancy weight, plus some shortly after giving birth and while others have a hard time loosing it. Also, they say that breastfeeding helps you to loose the weight faster, but some woman have a hard time loosing still and even end up gaining weight. You will just have to find what will work for you! Congrats on your pregnancy and best of luck to you!

Thank you so much for responding :) I think Im just worried that I will be fat again...I have a scale obsession as it is which I know isn't healthy but at the same time I have met people who say oh I don't own one because it just makes you crazy and they have gained all of their weight plus some back...Im having a C-section, my doctors are great....Im just scared about the baby being small or having issues...and the weight gain is great for the baby but I worry did he get what he needed?? I hear we have smaller than average babies...which concerns me..

I don't know if I believe that we have smaller babies than the average.  I have 4 children, 2 pre-op and 2 post-op and all 4 babies were average or bigger.  My 1st son was 7lbs 10ozs born 17 days early.  My daugther (#2) was 8lbs 14oz born 9 days late.  My 2nd son (1st post-op) was 8lbs 5.5oz born 8 days early and my last born son was 7lbs 6oz born on his due date.  So even though my last born son was my smallest, I don't feel it has anyting to do with my surgery.  Try not to worry to much, I'm sure you and your baby will be just fine!

My son will be 4 months old in 3 days.  I weighed 250lbs when I found out I was pregnant.  I weighed 251lbs the day I gave birth.  My son weighed 8lbs 4.5oz.  He has been EBF since day one and I've had no issues with my milk supply.  I really don't keep track of what I eat right now.  I just make sure I get all of my protein and lots of water in.  I weighed myself a week ago and I weighed 215lbs.  After the baby is born, you will still need to eat a bit more than pre-pregnancy and make sure you drink lots of water.  Water is really important for milk production.  Work your tool and the weight will come off.  Congrats and good luck.

In 4 days my son will be 9 months old. I am still breastfeeding but he is on food as well. I gained 65lbs my pregnancy and still have 35-40 to go before pre-pregnancy weight. I have been dealing with a lot of stress though and the women in my family have been known to hold onto weight while nursing. I still get my restrictions, but I can eat more than normal due to the hormones with nursing.

I am now 32 weeks pregnant and I have gained 15 pounds.  At times I feel as though I am not gaining enough but my doctor seems okay with my weight gain.  Believe me, I am not cutting any corners and tend to indulge myself with whatever comes to mind but it seems as though I am destined to be one of those girls that just doesnt gain a lot.  I was soo worried going in that I would gain too much and not ironically I worry about not gaining enough.  I am 2 years out and this is my first baby.  I wish you the best of luck with getting the weight off after pregnancy.
