infant car seats
What do you drive? Unless you already drive a large vehicle (minivan or full size SUV) then the size and fit in your car will matter a lot more for safety than brand. Until a week ago, I drove a Jetta and finding a car seat that fit in a sedan (even my husbands large mercury) was a big challenge! Definitely something to consider! A "cheap" carseat that fits properly is far safer than the most expensive one that is not in right!
I agree 100% on the size of your vehicle comments. I drive a Dodge Nitro SUV, and we considered a Britax, and a Graco Snugride 35 so we wouldn't have to upgrade once Tatum gets over 22lbs. But, I tried to get the Britax and Graco 35 into my vehicle with my husband needing the seat back further when he drives or rides in my vehicle, those 2 larger "safer" carseats were out. Even with in the middle of back seat placement, the sides of the driver seat and passenger seat rubbed and bumped into the larger sized carseats when he drove. We went with a Graco 22 snugride with the travel system stroller.
I'm only 5'2" and trying to stretch over the seats to get those bigger carseats out was a chore in itself, and I'd have to twist, turn, and tug on the seat to get out the big carseats out of my vehicle.

Britax Marathon is awesome. Worth the $ in my opinion. And, with the recent recommendation to keep kids rear-facing for much longer than preeviously recommended, the Marathon makes sense-- it can rear-face for kids up to FIFTY pounds, I believe! They run about the same price at every store, so I would either buy at a store like Babies R Us that puts out those 30% any one item coupons, or start trolling Amazon. Good luck!
size of car, type of back seat and where the car seat is to be installed ( check owners manual.. not all carseats can be installed in all spots).. will determine what type of carseat you will buy... you can go to babies r us once you determine all that and try them out in your car...i have the snug ride 22... it holds until 22 lbs or 29 inches- whatever comes first.
LOVE my Britax! You couldn't ask for a better car seat. I drive an Expedition too so seat room isn't a problem though. My mother found a car seat at a garage sale and bought it because it was cheap. When you pick it up versus his Britax there's no comparison. You can really tell that there's metal in the framework. If you google "Britax" and "coupon" or "discount" you can usually find the Advocate for about the same price that Babies R Us wants for the Marathon.
