I am wondering if anyone else out here has been in my situation, or similar.  As my subject said, I am 6 years post op from RNY, 150-155 down from 230. I just turned 36, I have two children (10 and nearly 13), both pre-op.  I have remarried and now hubby and I have decided to add to the family.  I have been taking 1MG daily of Folic Acid for several month on top of my usual regimen of vitamins including B-12 injections every 2-3 weeks.

Any experiences would be welcome! I almost can't believe we are doing this, a little scared, but totally excited!

Thanks Sandy, I hope the IVF works for you!  I hope my plumbing works now too!  I was on Depo for several years, but went on the pill knowing that it takes some time for the Depo to wear off. So here we go and keep us posted too!

Hi there, I'm 38 years old, 7.5 years post-op expecting my 2nd child post-op any day now. I have 2 children from a previous marriage, ages 12 (will be 13 in December) and 10.5. I also have a 3 year old son with my current husband. I have to admit that I was very nervous about having my last son and was content with having my older 2 children from my previous marriage. However, my current husband didn't have any children of his own and really wanted one. I couldn't imagine my life without my 3 year old son! He brings soooo much joy and pleasure and I find I have so much more patience with him than I did with my older 2 children when they were younger. It's great to have the age gap between the older 2 and my younger one as they can help out more and I have more breaks from having all children together at one time. Also, with expecting a 4th child sounds like a lot of children, but I know it wont be so hard because I do have the age gap between the older 2 and the younger 2! Also, I feel by having children at a slightly older age, keeps my husband and I younger! Kids are a blessing....even when they are driving us crazy....which is most of the time.....LOL. I say go for it! I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised! Let me know if you have any more questions!

Oh my! That is almost us to a T! My daughter will also be 13 in Decemer and my other is 10.5!  And this will also make my Hubby's first bio-baby, is already Daddy to the other too, but this way he wll get the full pregnancy, birth etc... I am so glad to hear things work out so well with you, it is exactly what I had hoped for!

I do know that it will be C-section as my first two were.  But at this rate i should be old hat at having holes cut in my tummy: 2 C's, RNY (though it was laproscopic) and gall bladder removal. The best part of that being I get to schedule it, at least once we get on the way with things.

Did you have a special OB?  Or was your usual able to handle the aspects of you being a GB patient well enough?  Unfortunatly as fab as Dr. S is he just moved all the way to Columbus OH so that is just too far for me to go for this now. But I have a great regular OB so I think it will be good, I need to check in with him soon, he was aware we were considering it soon, but I haven't spoken with him since we decided to move forward.  I'll be calling probably tomorrow to set something up.

I see my regular OB/midwife that I have seen for years and years (before children), as well as a high risk doctor due to my age and having gastric bypass.....though I feel the surgery don't put us at high risk.  I think it's common to send GB patients to high risk doctors for ultra sounds and such to make sure the baby is growing as it should and we get the proper nutrition, etc.  I'm sure you will find your pregnancy will go smoothly (if not better than your last 2) because your health is much better at a lower weight than being obese and pregnant!  I would also think you shouldn't have a problem getting pregnant (especially if you didn't have any prior complications with getting pregnant) and your age really shouldn't be a factor.  There are many woman on this board that are currently pregnant or have been pregnant that are around your age and older and having great experiences!  I would also suggest have a full panel blood draw of all your vitamin levels before you get pregnant and then at the beginning of each trimester to make sure you don't get depleted on anything.  Also, if you haven't already, add folic acid to your vitamin routine!  Best of luck and I look forward to hearing about your BFP!!!
