i want a baby when can i start trying?
hi everyone
i had my surgery on aug 3rd, i weighed 252 and now weigh 215....i will be 29 years old in 10 days but i really want a baby. my husband and i are ready....he is trying to lose weight on his own without surgery and i know it gets easier and is better to get pregnant after weight lost and i know most doctors tell you to wait a year to a year and a half but my question is has anyone gotten pregnant less than that after surgery, what complications did you have, what is the liklihood of a miscarriage, etc? my husband and i do plan on waiting until i am almost a year out to start trying it's just that all my friends are pregnant now and i am having the baby itch but i know it's healthier for me to wait i was just wondering about and the information i find on the internet can be confusing and contradicting....please help

I had my surgery (RNY) specifically to have children....of course there were other added benefits to having surgery! Such as my BP lowering, and no more joint pain, and my seatbelt not locking up (and many many more), but yes I wanted a baby most of all! My doc told me to wait for two years to get pregnant, but after doing my research I discovered that one year was plenty time to wait! SOOOO five days before my 1 year surgiversary I got my positive pregnancy test! YAY! I was so scared it wouldnt happen for us because we had male infertility issues but God is GOOD!....but anyway you didnt ask all that. We waited a year to get pregnant! :)
Bariatric surgeons typically tell all female patients to wait 18-24 months post op to start trying to conceive. Work with your surgeon. On your next appt, tell him that you want to get pg. 29 is still very young for conception... you've got several good years ahead of you.
Bottom line... your body will be in SO MUCH better shape 18-24 months out then it ever has been. The first 12 months post op, your body is in tremendous shock and trying to figure out what "normal" actually should be. Then after about a year, your body has it figured out (provided that you've release all or most of the excess weight by this time) and then you should give your body 6-12 more months to stablize. That's why docs suggest waiting 18-24 months post op until TTC.
You have your whole healthy and vibrant life ahead of you. Just focus on making yourself healthy and supporting your husband to do the same.
