IVF is a go

Hi Ladies!  I've been laying low on here cuz the past several weeks have been karazy!  I've been on the super duper fertility drugs in preparation for IVF.  It was a total wild ride this cycle.  My follicles were growing a lot slower than they anticipated.  It usually takes 8 days and mine took 14 days.   All the while having US's and blood tests every 2-3 days.  Well, this morning we finally got the green light to move forward with IVF.  We have a good # of mature follicles and we're doing the eggie retrieval this Sunday morning.  Then the fertilization and then implantation on Wed.  Then we go in for the blood pg test on Sunday 10/30.

I'm sooooooooooo glad we're moving forward this cycle.  It wa**** or miss about a week ago.  The doc was discouraged with how few follicles were growing and told me to prepare for possibly falling back to only IUI.  I spent a LOT of time crying over the past few weeks.  These fert drugs are waaaaaaaaay more potent than clomid.  I was crying at everything.  Here are my 2 favorite cries:  watching the end of a challenge on Survivor (oh yes!) and then the big one... *wait for it...*  I cried watching Jersey Shore!  I'm telling you... these hormones are potent!  So glad I'm done with that.  Now we just look forward to hopefully just the pregnancy emotions.

Thanks for all your support ladies!  Even though I've been pretty quiet on this board over the past couple of months, I still am thinking about all of you!

This is great news!! I am so happy for you!!

I hope that all goes well, and you have great news at the end of the month!

I can only imagine the hormones that are going through your body, I am a roller coaster without them. I think my spouse would leave me if they got worse.

Cheers,
Carrie
All my best in your journey!

Hey Maryn! Happy Baby trails to ya.. I just had my "big" appointment yesterday.. I start Follistem and Menopur tonight!  I asked if these drugs would make me crazy cause Chlomid sure did, she said they shouldn't,,, hmmm, thanks for the real woman's point of view... hmmm. soooo, Do you know it said on the internet that menopur was made from menopausal women't urine,, ewww! and i gotta inject that stuff? oh well,, i guess menopausal women take pregnant horse urine pills to help with their hot flashes... what in the world.... so mine are all sub q s******cept maybe the last one,,, HCG is IM.. makes me kinda mad, cause i ordered and paid 100 dollars for ovidrel sub q then they said they've been studying ladies with a higher BMI and their eggs are seeming less mature than they want, and HCG is the solution for higher BMI ladies,, oh well, if it works.. I'm curious how many follicles you made.. i'm nervous about making too many,, cause i feel like life begins at conception and don't want to many babies on ice... so i think if i happen to make over 8 good eggs, i'll have them mix 8 with sperm, then freeze any more plain eggs if i make more than 8.. but i'm counting my eggs before they've hatched ha... I guess i'm on shots for about 10 days, then should have my retrieval at the end of october and implantation 3 days later,, You guys are about the only people i'm telling,, there's just to many emotions riding on all this, and i don't feel like bringing my whole family on the roller coaster,, my niece just had her scan yesterday,,and she's having a boy,, naming him Landon Ray.. Happy for her,, but wow, she just "popped up" pregnant, so i think my family thinks i should too.. oh well,, All in God's hands,, keep us posted!  Sandy

Oh yes... menopur and follistim... worse than clomid by far!
I started my cycle w/1***** bitty follicles and ended up with 7 ripe ones.  Mine took longer to grow.  It's usually 8 days on men/foll and i was on those lovelies for 14 days.  Yes both were subq and the HCG is IM.  With 7 ripe ones getting harvested, they will probably have 4-5 fertilized and implanting back.  If you have more, they will just freeze the embryos.  You'll want that if you need to go into a 2nd cycle.  Frozen embryos means none of the lupron, menopur, and follistim!  Just the hcg!  I wont have any frozen this cycle.  So dont worry about too many matured follicles.  never too many!  and doing a frozen IVF cycle is SOOOOOO much cheaper than the full cycle that we're doing now.

Good luck to you, Sandy!  May we both be successful with this IVF cycle!

OUCH! Shots hurt! but i guess you already knew that,, ha,, my husband recorded me giving them to myself,, ha, this should be a hoot.. My fertility clinic only lets us implant 2 embryos at a time (less chance of octomom) ... :)  so hopefully i'll be able to have some popsickle babies after this too :).  Happy retrieval and implantation day to you Maryn!

Sending you lots of baby wishes and for you to finally have your little miracle!! We will be starting our cycle soon if no BFP on our own. I've done all the IUI's and Clomid cycles I could stand so the next step for us is IVF, I'm not too thrilled at the prospect fo having to take so many meds and go to so many appointments but it's worth it in the end if you get a miracle, plus there are many things that can be discovered just by going through the procedure, like getting to the root of the problem of the infertility causes. I will certainly be asking many questions and hope that those who have gone before me and are active on the boards can answer them.
