Breast feeding

Hi All,

I have only posted on this forum a couple times.  I just delivered my twin boys 4 weeks ago-they were 7 lbs 1 oz and 7 lbs 15 ozs!   Nice and healthy big boys.  We've been exclusively breast feeding and I plan to continue EBF'ing till at least 6 months, hopefully longer.

During my pregnancy my doctor decided it was in our best interest (me and the boys) to take all the fluid out of my band.  I gained 62 lbs during my pregnancy and have so far last 42, so 20 more to go until I get to my pre-pregnancy weight.  I'd love to go back for my first post-pregnancy fill in a month or two.  The first fill probably won't really do a whole lot, except start me back on track.

My question is, and this is really applicable no matter kind of surgery you had, did you find that eating a restricted amount of calories reduced your milk supply?  I'm worried if I'm not eating enough it might affect my supply?

I noticed that when I started a restricted diet, I got a really bad case of vertigo! It only got better when I started eating more calories. It was so bad that I could not get out of bed for 3 days. Not until recently have I not had a problem in my supply diminishing with reducing my intake. I still have 40lbs to lose before pre pregnancy weight. No matter how much I exercise or watch my diet, I cannot lose it. I am now up to about 100+ grams of protein and about 800-1000 calories a day and walking a lot. I think I may be one of the ones that won't lose while breastfeeding. I am frustrated about it, but it just will not come off! Your babies are only 4 weeks old. Give it some time. Just make sure you follow a healthy diet and drink your water! Good Luck!

You can call the lactation consultant at your hospital and get all sorts of really good information. The biggest factors are to not cut your cals too much and to drink LOTS of fluids.

My supply was never good, regardless of food or fluid intake. I drank an herbal tea and it helped.
