Try for pregnancy before revision or wait until after?

HI gals!  I am 39 years old and have 2 young sons.  We are considering a 3rd child and with my age....now would be the time!  BUT, my revision from band to vsg is scheduled for January.  So...the question is do I try to get pregnant 1st and 'rescheduled my revision' until after a possible pregnancy?  How long after surgery should you wait to try to get pregnant??

I waited until after my revision to have my third child. I am currently 7 weeks pregnant and in october will be a year since surgery. I had my IUD removed in august and i estimated it will be acouple tries before i get pregnant but i was prove wrong i got pregnant on our first try. My surgeon told me to wait 1 year, all my bloodwork is great so far and my pregnancy is going great. I am 36 years old. This is my first pregnancy with me weighting under 200Lbs and so far seems so much easier than my 2 other pregnancies. I would recomend you to wait until after your surgery to have a baby to increase your chances to a healthier pregnancy

Good luck

For the majority of surgeries they are going to recommend that you wait 1 year. Since you're 39, that is likely going to just make it more difficult and mpossibly more risky for you to get pregnant.
Is your band causing you problems? If it isn't, and the issue is just slow or no eight loss, I would be tempted to suggest getting pregnant and then getting your revision done. In the end though, none of US can tell you what you should do, this is really something you need to discuss with both your OB and your surgeon.

It's a personal choice, but at 39, it's not the same as being in your early or mid 30's. There are time constraints. The older you are when you get pregnant, the higher the risk. That said, my dr did say that she would rather see a pregnant woman in her 40's at a healthy weight than an obese pregnant woman in her early thirties.

Good luck!

I think the biggest question is why are you getting the revision?  If you're having band problems, it is likely to just get worse when you're pregnant.  I got pregnant six months out from the sleeve.  All my labs were great, I could eat enough to maintain a healthy pregnancy, and my weight loss had really slowed to a crawl (I was about 6lbs from a normal BMI).   With the sleeve it is definitely possible to have a healthy pregnancy without having to wait as long as with some procedures.  I'd discuss your concerns (especially your age) with your surgeon and OB and see what they think.  Neither of my docs have any sleeve related concerns with my pregnancy.  At 33 weeks I've had a very easy uneventful pregnancy.  Good luck with whatever you choose!
