Those of you with a sleeve...I have a gluclose test coming up, and I heard that we can't do the standard gluclose test, is this true? what has your experience been?
Thanks,
Crystal

There is no reason you can't do the glucose test with the sleeve.

You could.  I didn't because I hated it so much with my first baby (pre sleeve). I did a test where I ate a "normal" breakfast and had blood drawn two hours later.

With just a sleeve, you should be able to do it just fine unless you personally have issues with ingesting lots of sugar at a time (I've come across a few VSGers who experience dumping from too much sugar).

You can. I personally chose to NOT do the standard test. Personally, I rarely eat 75gr of sugar over the course of an entire day so why would I think that chugging that amount of sugar would give accurate results. I chose to do at-home testing for 2 weeks. It was a pain in the ass, but I would rather have endured the testing at home vs. chugging that digusting sugar drink.

I tested 4 times a day. Fasting and then 3 times 2 hours after my biggest meals for the day. My results were awesome, and stayed consistent throughout the entire 2 weeks. My ob's were elated. I also have transit time issues. Things are slipping through faster, and I wasn't willing to get any type of negative side-effect from all of that sugar hitting me at once.

I don't dump per se, but I feel pretty crappy after eating certain high sugar foods when I do choose to indulge in say cake with buttercream icing.

I'm also opting not to do any glucose tolerance tests. I rarely consume ANY sugar (other than a little fruit), so, like you, chugging sugar water would not yeild very accurate results about how my body behaves under normal daily cirumstances. I don't dump (hurray, pylorus!), but lots of sugar can make me very tired/groggy and sometimes even makes me rush to the restroom (and it's not to vomit!) since I'm not used to eating lots of sugar regularly.

I'm only coming up on 14 weeks right now, so for now, I just check my fasting levels at home and an occasional 2-hour post-prandial. As we get closer to 28 weeks, when gestational tends to really show up, I will test more frequently, including 1 and 2 hours after meals.

Yep, I don't dump either, but I do get the "groggies" or "I NEED to sleep right now" when I do consume sugar. I live about 40 minutes from the hospital and I really didn't want to crash out in the lab waiting area LOL.

I did it. There is no reason why you can't do it. (with possible exceptions as stated above) Infact I have done it 4-5 times in the past pre-sleeve and I felt like crap. This time , post-sleeve, it didn't bother me at all. Sure the drink tastes nasty but the 2 mins of yuck was nothing to ensure everything was safe with my baby. I asked my OB about doing alternatives because of the past experiences but she didn't feel comfortable switching it to something else so I went ahead with it.

I hope your test is just as easy as mine was.
