Ketones in urine
Today I went in and seen my OB because I had some spotting just to make sure everything was ok.Watching my cervix very close because what I went through with girls any how at 9 weeks three days we heard babys heartbeat he said was a great thing and everything else look good but he said I had ketones show up in my urine. He said nothing to really worry about because was a very low number and first thing in morning with not much food on me yet.He will check on Monday again and make sure no changes. He said my gastric might be a part of it because not enough carb en take he told me to try and eat more.I eat every two hours.I guess this is also a sign of gestational diabetes but he doesnt think its that.Has anyone ever had this come up.
it can be a sign of either diabeties... or low carb intake... up your carb intake drink more water.. the ketones mean that your burning fat for fuel... they sell strips at cvs/walgreens that test for ketones in your urine... what are you eating? by carbs i dont mean you have to have a pizza... but try some carb/protien combos... like an apple/cheese... pb and crackers... so on and so forth... some protiens also have an high carb ratio ( think beans)... which will also help the ketones stay at bay... good luck :)
Thanks Ladys for the info I also read up on it a bit yesterday to.Doctor will check again Monday to see if any changes and he said go from there but in mean time he did say kick up carbs and such.I eat lots of cheese and fruit.I think it may be lack of protiens becaue the meat just gets to me.The hubby cooked it so I could eat it last night if I cook it its not going down.I was supriesed to hear I may not be eating enough Im really big on making sure baby gets food so I will just add some more.

Ketones a sign of diabetes? Only if your glucose levels are uncontrolled, and you're headed for ketoacidosis (a very severe condition requiring immediate medical attention). You woul likely have other signs of diabetes before ketones would start showing up I'd be MUCH more likely to go with the fact that you were in a bit of ketosis from not having eaten.
Some resources try to scare us with ketosis about how ketones cause fetal brain damage; however, I've looked into this for hours and hours on end (since I wanted to continue eting low in carbs throughout pregnancy - so far, so good!), and I have yet to find a single reliable source that supports this claim. MANY women who have lots of nausea/sickness/loss of appetite end up being in ketosis unintentionally, and they (and babies) turn out fine. And there have been civilizations that existed for centuries without daily access to carbs (think Inuits) who did not have any crazy high incident of brain damaged babies compared to other civilizations.
At this point, I really wouldn't worry about ketones. If you think diabetes is even a potential issue, then ask for a prescription for glucoe test strips and check your glucose levels at home, as GLUCOSE levels, not ketone levels, would be the best indicator of diabetes.
