Need some advice...

I found out on Thursday that I have to have surgery on my ankle on Monday. I have been trying to pump milk for my dh to feed Liam while I am in surgery but I have not been very successful. I wasn't able to pump much with my first child either. I'm going to keep trying but if I have to get some formula for him, I will. My question is, what formula do I get? I've never used it before. We are hoping that the surgery will only be a couple of hours and I will nurse him before I go in and then as soon as I wake up and can hold him.

Thanks.

I would call the lactation nurse at the hospital that you delivered at and ask them for advice. They are the experts. You might need to "pump and dump" a couple of times following surgery- you might pass some anesthetic onto Liam.

I'm no expert, but I BF my son also and I have given him soy formula that his prediatrician gave me when I had to have a CT scan a month ago...he doesn't like it as much as breast milk, but he will drink it if he's hungry enough...I too, couldn't pump enough to get enough bottles for him as I had to pump and dump for 12 hrs after my scan, so the soy formula was a good alternative.  Hope this helps!

I never made enough to breast feed 100%, so I was fortunate that mny son seemed happy to eat either (probably the last time he wasn't picky about his food though). If you can, opt for an organic formula, We liked Earth's Best and  Nature's One.
