Just Starting
I am just getting started. I had RNY on 5/3/2010. My partner and I are ready to start our family. I havent had a period since the end of November. I am working with kaiser's reproductive health services (fertility clinic) to conceive. Originally, they put me on progesterone to try to get me to have a period. Two rounds of that later and still no period. They had me come in for an u/s and that showed that my uterine lining was too thin to shed - hence, no period. On monday I have to go in for the HSG test. Normally, before they will do the HSG test they require you to have a period (and on the third day of your period, have some blood work done). Luckily, they recognize that I am a getting a late start on this family building stuff (I'm 38 years old) and decided to forgo the period and bloodwork and go straight to the HSG. Thats monday.
After that I will be scheduled to speak with the fertility doctor and we will come up with a plan from there. I don't have a clue as to what we do to get my uterine lining thicker (i need that magic egg to stick darn it!) . I know that eliminating sugar and simple carbs - eating whole foods dramatically helps... but there has got to be some other stuff we can do. I have scheduled 4 appointments for acupuncture (never done this before) because I have heard that it can be beneficial.
All of it is exciting and a little more than scary.... but I am ready for it.
I would be lying if I said that I wasnt afraid of gaining weight. I am MORE than afraid... but when push comes to shove *** sperm comes to egg) the health and wellbeing of that baby comes first... so I will eat healthy (and within moderation) and deal with wherever that leaves the number on the scale. I can work on that later.... after she/he is born.
Anyone else have trouble with their period not making an appearence this far out from surgery? If any of you have seen my cycle, could you point it in my direction and send it back home please? I could really use it. (geez, I never thought I would say that)

Just wanted to say good luck to you. We are scheduled for IVF in November and I had my RNY only a few weeks after you. I am about to turn 40. I have regular periods but I had to have a polyup removed last week... There is a lot involved in IVF. My RE put me on DHEA to help. You might want to look into it for the uterine lining. I only have one overy, and I have PCOS so ovulating is more my issue.
Hope everything works out well for you!

Thanks! I wish you luck as well. We are in very similar boats,... im 38 and just getting started. I will be meeting with my fertility doc in the next week or two, I will definately ask about DHEA. For now, they told me NOT to take anything that alters my hormone levels. I know that DHEA is known for leveling out hormones. We will see what they say. I have set up a series of acupuncture appts to help with fertility issues. I am up for using any and all avenues that can help. We will see what my doc thinks of that too.
Anyway, I wish you the best in your baby making adventures :)
