I am a bit freaked out because I am 41, and only 9 months out from surgery and am almost into my 8th week of pregnancy.
I am excited about the possibility but terrified of complications and even more so because my perinatologist doesnt seem to be concerned about GBS... he is more worried about my age.

any advice would be very helpful..........with vitamins, I only switched my multi to a prenatal and still do my iron, calcium citrate, b12, b complex.............

I was told 10 years ago that I would have difficulty ever getting pregnant........and my ex and I were together 8 years, had one child, one miscarriage and then I was given that news and never got pregnant again......he recently had a byaby with someone else, so obviously I didn't think I could get pregnant and here I am.........

so afraid of miscarriage cause I really want this baby......wish I could stop constantly worrying about miscarriage!!  I did see the heartbeat on Tuesday which was a great thing to see!  (:

TAKE A DEEP BREATH !!!!
You are going to be fine.
I am younger but I was also only 6 months post op when I became pregnant with my second daughter, I was also told after my first that I would not be able to have any more children.
I was on a prenatal  vit and my same meds, I too was very scared but I had so much support and I am sure you will too.
I lost weight in the first couple of months but then started to gain, about 18 lbs total, my daughter grew on target and was 6 lbs 1 oz, born a day before her due date.
Just remember to take it easy don't over work your self and try and relax and enjoy this time as much as you can

I will be 42 this year and I am currently pregnant at 35 weeks.

I had a rough time at first.  Plus to top it off, I was only 4 months out of surgery.  I did not switch off my bariatric vit(s) (Celebrate - multi and calcium citrate) .  I added extra iron ( tender iron from vitalady .. http://vitalady.com/ ) and C.  Folic Acid 800 mg.  2 ml B12 shots.

Plus, I had to educate my doctors to RNY.  Print this list out for your doctors ...  http://wlsvitagarten.com/2010/06/08/suggested-pregnancy-labs/

I found that Zofran give me bad headaches so they switched me to Phenergan 25 mg.  I still take it once a day.

I have lost 35lbs being pregnant because I can't keep much down, however my labs are doing fine.  Just last lab showed low iron so I have upped it.

I too was extremely worried in the first Trimester.  Rest a lot and eat 7 times a day.  I can't stomach meats.  So, I live on beans and cheese and tofu.  I add an unflavored protein that I got from Dave Chambers ( http://www.liquidbariatricvitamins.com/   protein is half way down page or call him directly  951-846-9179) to all my meals.  In fact, I use many of his products.  Helps me a ton.  I was never one to drink a protein shake, plus my surgeon didn't encourage them.  He wanted us to eat our protein.

Hey there,

Thanks for your response........it is really nice to be able to relate to other people in this situation.......I really can't wait till that second trimester!  I have printed out that lab list and hope the Drs have no problem with it...

How did your surgeon react when you told them?

Also, what is Zofran? or Phenergan - and should I be taking them?

I am still doing 2 protein shakes a day -- my surgeon is a freak about them and thinks -- even at 9 months out taht I should be doing 3 protein shakes per day and 1 small meal - if I am hungry......

Right now with the pregnancy, the mood swings are KILLING me......lol

Thanks again.

http://www.drugs.com/phenergan.html

Phenergan is used to treat allergy symptoms such as itching, runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, hives, and itchy skin rashes.

Phenergan also prevents motion sickness, and treats nausea and vomiting or pain after surgery. It is also used as a sedative or sleep aid.

.................
http://www.drugs.com/zofran.html

Zofran (ondansetron) blocks the actions of chemicals in the body that can trigger nausea and vomiting.

Zofran is used to prevent nausea and vomiting that may be caused by surgery or by medicine to treat cancer (chemotherapy or radiation).

......................

Even thou Phenergan is for allergies, it works wonders for morning sickness.  No headaches.  With Zofran, I have to take acetaminophen along with it.  But still get the headache hours later.

Phenergan is my daily friend.  Keeps me from getting that "oh, no, gotta throw up feeling".  Completely safe for the baby.

.................
How did your surgeon react when you told them?  Well, I thought I was gonna get in serious trouble.  But I didn't.  Whole staff is on my side.  They do my labs every 6 weeks.  My ob runs her own. Dr Nye is wonderful.  He has been with me every step of the way.  He has even spoken to my Ob, who is hadn't even had a patient with RNY.  The hospital she is at is a Lab Band hospital.  She thanks me each visit for all the new info I bring her.

I have about 4 weeks left.  Just waiting on my water to break.  I am 100% eff. and 1 cm di.  and o station.  I have morning sickness daily.  If you do, get them to give you a sample of both Phenergan and Zofran and see which is best for you.

Hi There, welcome and congratulations on your pregnancy!

I'm far out from surgery but am also 41 and can sooo understand your worries.  I wish I had a good tip to give you on how to relax.  All  I find that helps me is accepting the fact that what will be will be and at this point, short of eating properly and resting there isn't a bit of control we have in this situation!!

Try to find some things that keep you calm and relaxed,, warm baths... quiet walks... etc..
Try not to read too much, it'll end up freaking you out more.  Remember... most pregnancies end in a healthy delivery....  (even at our age)  : )

Very best wishes to you!

Wow, so we are in similar boats but you have hit that 2nd trimester! Congrats!!!  can't wait to see you progress through the pregnancy...

As you have said, I am done reading - except for this group's posts.........it is scary out there and people love to post the horrible stuff....

Right now I am packing to move and it is causing a great deal of stress, so I am going to do as you said and try harder to relax.....definitely hiring movers and painters as those are things I can no longer do...  (:

Although, I was a little further out from my RNY when I had my first post op (4 years)--I had 2 post op babies.  I was 39 and 41 when I had my daughter and son.  Other than upping my calcium and switching to a good prenatal, I didn't change anything as far as my vitamins.  I found those pregnancies to be far better than my pre-RNY one 12 years prior.  I only gained 14 pounds total with my daughter and 2 pounds with my son.  There was a 12 year gap between my daughter and my next daughter.  We had even tried IVF (2 rounds) with no success and were told it would never, never happen.  Then 3 days after my husbands 40th birthday, I found out I was pregnant!   Never, say never!!!!   I know the worrying won't stop--it just lightens up a little!
