VSG on 11/13/10 with
I found out I'm pregnant- currently 10 wks- dd of 4-1-12. I've been told my whole life I was unable to have children- for various reasons, one being my excess weight. Well I had my VSG surgery on 11-13-10, and had lots of complications- including a leak- and was in the hospital for a month afterward. I am 10 months out from surgery and doing great- had lost 145 lbs- and feeling great.
Well it was a Total surprise to find out I was pregnant- but after the total shock & surprise I am now excited about the thought of having a baby. I will be going at it alone- I have a supportive family- but there will be no father in the picture, which is ok with me. I fought for my life and survived- I know I can do this.
So my question is.... I'm having morning sickness- all day- most days. I try to eat every 2 hrs, and all I have been able to do is maintain my weight, I haven't gained/loss any. I had a strict exercise schedule - until I found out I'm pregnant. I just do not have the energry to exercise- and the nausea is horriable most days. Any advice ? I have talked to my surgeon and my ob and my baby is perfect- size& heartbeat- so that's good. I'm just worried about not being able to gain weight & being able to provide what the baby needs.
Any advice from anyone who has been in this situation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so very much.

Congratulations!  What an awesome surprise!  First off, relax!  Don't worry about gaining right now, you're still really early in your pregnancy and if the morning sickness is bad, it is totally normal not to gain, or even to lose weight during the first trimester.  Right now, just eat whatever settles your stomach.  As the morning sickness goes away, you can go back to focusing on balanced eating.  Your baby will take whatever it needs from you, so make sure you're good about taking your vitamins.  Everybody's weight gain during pregnancy is very individual, so just listen to your body and your doctor to make sure that what you're doing is right for you.  Good luck and enjoy the ride, motherhood is an amazing experience!

I totally agree with the PP, do what you can, and the rest will come in time. I have two girls - right now ages 26 months and then 10 weeks. With both of them, the first trimester was, well ... less than magical. However, once I reached 14 weeks, it was a totally different story! I could eat - even had great cravings like steak and green beans! My energy came back - with both I was walking 4 miles up and down hills until the day I delivered! It will come .. I promise! Congratulations, rest easy, and enjoy this time. And, welcome!

First, welcome and congratulations to you!  I agree with the other posters, just rest as much as you possibly can right now, the energy will come back, you'll have the energy to exercise again... it just doesn't feel like it right now!

I'm in the 13th week and just starting to regain some of my energy.  I'm thankful I've gone through the first trimester during the summer as I teach right now in elementary schools, so I've had lots of opportunity to rest!  It's important....

Take good care and let us know how you're doing!

Best wishes,
Linda

congrats and welcome!... the baby will take what it needs from you.. and will be just fine.. make sure your taking your vitimans... eat what you can when you can... like jennifer said zofran is wonderful.. they have 2 different kinds one that disolves under your tounge and one that is absorbed in your belly... the 8 mg under your tounge one is what worked for me.. rest.. your growing a human... the father thing... well... i raised my jayson for the first year with no father.. it was really really hard- but we survived.. we have a really really strong bond because of it... then i met my boyfriend.. and he took over the daddy roll.. jayson is almost 3 now and one of the happiest, well adjusted children i know... you will be fine... keep your head up... dont worry about weight gain/loss... im 36 weeks and FINALLY have a 2 lb gain... my baby is weighting in at 6 lbs!.. shes healthy and happy in the "bat cave"

VSG on 11/13/10 with
Just wanted to thank everyone for the kind words of encouragement- I feel lucky to have this forum for support. I think it is so very nice to communicate with others who have gone thru what I have, makes me feel not so alone. I have had so many medical people be like what's VSG? That's scary to me- and they are the ones who are supposed to be taking care of me.....
Thanks again for all the wonderful advice.

Hi. I totally understand about the MS. Mine lasted pretty much all day up until my 13thweek. I lost about 3 pds. I am now 15weeks and only feel sick when I try to eat certain foods...alas they tend to be the heavier proteins such as meat. I am now back to my original weight as I feel more like eating. I think the hardest thing is that with my vsg I am never hungry anyway and then with the nausea I have absolutely desire to eat. I do the best I can to force something down. Good luck!

Don't worry about not gaining this early in the game - I've lost almost 10 pounds over the past few weeks and am just a day over 11 weeks pregnant. Your baby only weighs about 1/4 of an ounce right now, so no worries. Just make sure they continue monitoring the baby's size on occasion to ensure growth, and don't worry - that baby will take everything it needs from you, so just keep eating as healthy as you can and keep taking your supplements.
