Just found out....

that disability only covers 6 weeks off! No matter HOW the baby came out!!!! I don't know anyone with my ins that has had a c-section to ask....if the dr doesn't clear me to work, doesn't disability have to pay me anyway? How does this work? I talked to my hr rep a TON before I went out and she never said anything about me still only getting 6 weeks!! I don't go back to my dr until the 15th and I'd need to be back to work on the 19th.

On the upside of things....we found a good in home daycare we like! It's a little more than I was hoping to spend, but we were comfortable and it felt right. She's in a really nice area (sort of on my way to work) and the kids that were there were happy and friendly. There was another one that was a little cheaper, but it didn't feel ok. It would have cost about the same based on gas because it's almost 3 miles north of my house and I work 11 miles south of my house.

Oh well! Nothing I can't handle, just need time for it to settle in!

I collected for 8 weeks... but my HR person took care of all the details... it was VERY confusing!  Good luck!

I updated my claim letting them know it was a C-section and I got 8 weeks. BUT they take a 2 week period to process the claim that you don't get paid for. So I actually got 6 weeks. I was very upset about that.

PA doesn't give disability for child birth, maternity leave is up to the company you work for. I got 12 weeks off but only paid for 6.

Good luck! Oh and definately go for the day care you are more comfortable with!

I found out the hard way myself the first time.  that why the 2nd time around i took out an  extra disabiliy plan with AFLAC about a year prior to planning my next preg.  I only got off 6 wk with first and took 3 mo off with second.  I again took out and extra plan prior to trying for my next so i can take off at least 3mo.  Now if i can only get that BFP.....i guess good things come to those who wait.

My company is the same way. Only 6 weeks whether you have vaginal birth or c-section. My parent's gave us $1000 when Lorelai was born so I could stay home an extra 3 weeks. It was so unexpected and generous of them. I am trying to save enough so that I can take a couple extra months off this time, but it's really hard. If I can just put aside enough to pay for rent for a couple months, I think that will be what we need. Fortunately this baby will be born right after we get taxes back and I will be getting my bonus from work while I am out so hopefully that will be couple more months. Comig back to work that early was really difficult for me. I think it was not only because of handing my tiny child to someone to care for all day when I really want to be the one to do it, but at that point, your hormones are still pretty crazy so I'm not gonna lie, it was tough, but everything is good now. Having daycare that you really trust will help immensly so please go with the one that is more expensive if you feel better about it! I hope all goes well for you!

I can't believe that you are going to have to go back to work after 6 weeks?

What about early children development and bonding?

I feel so lucky that I will get a year off at 93% of my salary.  Considering that I pay about 3.5 %of my salary for a bus pass, and will pay a bit less in taxes, I will come out even.

Not all companies even off that... I get NOTHING off paid and can take up to 4 weeks before they terminate my position.  When I joined the company, I had no idea I MIGHT get pregnant and did not ever think about it again.  Nine years later...  I will get 2 weeks off paid (my vacation for 2012...) and then either be off unpaid or have to go back to work.  If for some reason I get told I cannot work for any length of time during this pregnancy, I will be unemployed.  Maryland is an at will state - and medical leave is no excuse.  Our company is small, they cannot function long term without even one staff memeber...

I work Civil Service, and the only paid time off we get is time off that we've earned....other wise it's unpaid leave.  We can take up to 12 weeks off under the Family Medical Leave Act.....but if you don't have any vacation/sick time off saved.....you are bascially with out a paycheck.
