This is a total shock! YES, I know how babies are made...just didn't think it would happen to me.  It is absorbing and I am adjusting but WOW! I have 2 children 20 & 13!! I am even a grandma!

I am 10 weeks pregnant with twins,  I have had 4 ultrasounds already due to bleeding/spotting (Dr. is overly cautious) So far everything looks good.  They are measuring fine and heart beats are right on target.

A couple of questions:

My OB and surgeon both said to stay on the BA multi I was taking after surgery as it has everything a pre-natal has and then some.  The only thing they are adding is 4 mg folic acid (because of the two babies)  - What are you taking and what does your doc suggest??

I currently take two ba multi's, 1500 mg calcium w/ vit D, 1000mg fish oil, bi-weekly B-12 ingections, 4 mg folic acid.  OH and Miralax..(constipation is so much worse now!)

I am having trouble drinking..and all i want to eat are carbs..bad I know :( .Do you still drink protein shakes?  Are they ok during pregnancy?

My OB office said they came up with a protocall for women post RNY and will check my labs once each trimester.. I called my surgeon got a lab slip and will bring it to my OB just to make sure they check everything. - HOw often will you have labs done?? ARe there any additional labs that should be taken other than the standard po stuff?

Because of dumping I will not take the GTT, they suggested just doing a HGA-1c instead - What are you doing instead of the GTT?

Also due to my "advanced maternal age and rny I am considered high risk have to see the doc every 2 weeks and monthly ultrasounds.

Any advice suggestions you can add would soo appreciate it!  TWINS oHH MY!

I am also pregnant with twins.  Identical at that....  I have my surgery 2.5 years ago.  I am having trouble gaining wait.  I actually lost 1lb in a month.  I am 26 weeks now.  I go every week to get an ultrasound of the babies.  Needless to say I have lots of pictures.  Baby "B" is 2 weeks behind in growing so they want to make sure the babies are not sharing organs.
As far as vitamin's...  I get a B12 shot 1 time a month, flinstone with iron, liquid iron, natachew prenatal vitamin.  I can't take calcium pills because I have kidney stones.  I can only get my calcium through food.
I am right now checking my blood sugar through by *****ing myself and a machine that records the levels.  I started that Weds and will do it for a week.
I have had my labs done twice so far.
As far as carbs, the babies need some.  It is good for brain development.
I hope I helped with some of your questions...  You can ask away~~

Good Luck,
Rochelle

congrats and welcome!

1. take the folic acid- you overdose on it.. im taking everything the same as i was before just replaced the multi with prenatal

2. this is up to you... i eat what i can when i can ( 3rd post op pregnancy).. i know not the best answer but it works for me... i have trouble drinking anything without bubbles... i instantly gag and its not pretty

3. this is about right.. normal rny/ob panal should be fine unless other concerns come up.. iron is very important

4, there was a recent post about the diabetic testing with alot of ideas- i did drink the drink with one... huge disaster- the other 2 i went for a fasting test in the morning... followed by eating a "normal for me" breakfast.. waiting 2 hours ( after first bite) then going for another blood draw

5. enjoy!

Goodluck! Twins are so much fun!

As far as the GTT, my doctor just had me test my blood sugar before and after meals for a week with a regular finger-stick meter. I had no signs of gestational diabetes, so there was no need to bother with the GTT.

I had labs done twice during my pregnancy when I got pregnant 14 months post op (planned pregnancy with #3). Instead of the GTT test, my surgeon said to do hemoglobin A1C test to test for GD. I gained 27 lbs total and lost it all within 6 days PP! Congrats on your pregnancy, even if it wasn't planned- babies are a blessing!

Hit goal weight of 140 at 13 months out from RNY!! 130 pounds GONE!

Congrats on the babies. EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON!!!!

I have monthly u.s on the baby. I lost 50lbs my 1st 6 mo of being preg. I had a lot of problems eating and drinking then. I was really worried. Now, 7 mo in, I have no problems. LOL. Starting to gain now. In total I have gained 10 lbs so far. I take reg pre natal vit w/ DHA.I get labs once a trimester. With my recent labs my ob has me on iron. I dont dump. So the Dr were concerned that I would pass out with all the sugar from the GTT. I had the choice of taking the test not sticking myself. I chose to take the test. I did fine. I didnt pass out. High risk Dr are really good with pregnancy after RNY. I have a set of twins pre surgery. They are so fun. Just hold on for the ride and enjoy every bit of these moments.
