Well since my sugar runs low and I check my sugar all the time when I eat something to sweet it raise my sugar and makes me sick. For my glucose test at 18 weeks my OB had me eat 19 Brach's jellybeans and then do my test. They let me eat breakfast but it could only be an egg because it has no sugar in them. I would see if your dr will let you do that, if so Harris Teeter sells the Brach's jellybeans. My dr said it had to be Brach's, just fyi!!!!!

I am a diabetic... or was pre RNY and am during pregnancy...  As soon as the OB's office found out I was pregnant, they ordered a Glucose test - I should have researched this!!!  I went blindly into the office and was told to drink it.  I warned the tech I may dump and they gave me a room all my own to sit in, and I did it.

This was one of the worst things I have done in my life.  But I drank their 12 ounces in the 5 minutes and spent the next hour trying not to throw it up...  If I threw up, they said I had to come back and start over...

Fast forward three days later when I met the OB for the first time - her first question to me was, why did you do the glucose test?

Apparently if you do glucometer readings, etc. for the week before the appointment, you don't need the glucose test.  I had been on insulin ordered by my PCP and doing finger sticks for over a week when I met with her.  My PCP provided me with a meter (mine was OLD...) and my insurance covers all but my co-pay towards the strips... If you go with One Touch Meters however, they now have a $20 "mini" that works quite well.  The strips are pricy, but I would bet your insurance will cover them if your doctor will write a script...
