I had my DS September 2010. Found out I am 8 weeks pregnant. It was a total shock I'm scared and just plain don't know what to do. I am not done loosing weight but more importantly I am at a loss with the vitamins aspect of this. I follow vitaladys plan and so far my labs have been all with in normal range somethings trending down. So ladies who have had the DS and became pregnant can you offer me any guidance or words of wisdom?? Like are there any vitamins I need to increase or decrease add or stop taking??? Man this is scary. I hadn't intended on another pregnancy this will be my fourth baby. I plan a call to my surgeon on Monday in hopes that He and my OB can work together on this.

Thanks Y'all :)

First, take a deep breath.

Next, for vitamins, use your labs as your guide. Be sure your OB understands that you need to have labs run way more than normal pregnant women - with you being less than a year out and still losing, I highly suggest demanding labs on a MONTHLY basis throughout your pregnancy. And FULL labs, not just what they usually test - be sure they include things like PTH, zinc, copper, ferritin, etc.

Some people will tell you to increase your carb intake because ketosis is dangerous for the baby. Personally, I don't buy it and, despite searching, have not been able to find a single reputable source to confirm this statement, so I've not added any grains or starchy veggies at all.

In your specific case, I might even consider a high-risk OB, not because I think you're in immediate danger, but simply because you'll want to be monitored more closely than the average pregnant woman. I'm actually considering this for myself as well depending on how my OB reacts when I tell her I need more labs and such.

Oh, and congratulations! Planned or not, a positive outlook will take you far  :)

Ditto everything Jill said.  The only thing I will add is that I stopped taking additiona vitamin A for my comfort levels.  My labs that were pulled during my 2 week wait (pregnant but didn't realize it) showed they were at the tippy top of the normal range so I cut back some.

Congrats on your baby, this is such a beautiful gift you have.  You will be just fine, just make sure you keep track  of your labs on a monthly basis.  Keep everything on a spreadsheet, so you can quickly zero in on any Deficiencies, and you should be just fine.  May you be bless
