Prenatal Vits

I'm 5 weeks preg. Super Yay!!!  My OB said to quit all the vitamins I'm currently on and he gave me a rx for a prenatal vitamin. Is this enough? My labs are good where I'm at... except a super high B12. How much vitamins are ya'll taking now?

my surgeon wanted me on one of our regular chewables, plus a prenatal and the b12 and calcium we need...towards the end i ended up taking more magnesium but other than that i had good labs

I am nine weeks and struggling with this - it seems no one at my OB's office has a clue... Right now I am taking half my normal vits, my calcuium and B12 and then a prenatal from over the counter. She gaves me a chewable prenatal, but it messed with my nausea making it much worse...

Right now I am struggling with a lot since they are also having trouble maintaining my diabetes, appearly a WLS surgery and diabetes is more than my practice know what to do with, I am in the process of wroking out a new plan and doctor...

I took 2 prenatals right at bedtime so I could sleep through the nausea if they caused any. Also took B12 (which you are lucky to not need, just keep an eye on it!), Calcium, folic acid.

I just meet with my surgeon's office and they told me: stop the multi vitamin, take a pre-natal, b12, D3, and add in an additional calcium so I'm on 1500mg. calcium/day.  My labs have always been great except for a low Vitamin D.

I did NOT stop taking anything I had been taking before I was pregnant. Why would you cut back on vitamins when you're supporting 2 lives instead of one?

And I did NOT switch to a prenatal. I looked it up, and the primary differences between prenatals and regular multis are simply more calcium, more iron, and more folate. The multi I was already taking actually contains MORE folate than the prenatal I compared it to at the store. Since I already take iron and additional calcium separately, why would I need the prenatal?

The only thing I added was a separate DHA supplement (algal DHA since it's supposedly easier to absorb than fish oil forms, and with some malabsorption already, I figured that was a good idea).

there is such a thing as ODing on Vitamins. Dr's have their reasons to cut back on vitamins. MULTIvitamins are WAY different then prenatal. to the fact that i take prenatal even when im not pregnant. they did just fine when iwas pregnant and even now. everything is right on target. As for vitamin D, just get outside a lil more and soak up all athe sun you can.

As to WHY she doesnt take her vitamins? thats between her and her dr. we dont know what her labs say, plus with her being pregnant things can happen and make things better or worse while taking vitamins.

OP~doesnt matter what we are taking for vitamins, YOU do what is suggested by your dr. etc..our experiences are WAAAAAY different than yours.

I still take my regular vitamins and added in additional folic acid.  I stopped my extra iron and my calcium for a few weeks due to the severe constipation (and my iron was too high), but I have since added my calcium back in.  I take a multi+folic acid when I first wake up....calcium at breakfast, calcium at lunch, calcium at dinner and then multi+folic acid right before bed.

To many vitamins is not good for a baby mine were as well cut back to just my prenatal and my D that was it.This was ok by all three of my doctors including my Surgeon who did my gastric.

Wow, the responses to your post are all over the place.  As you can see, we are all different and take different things (I take 1 complete multi, B12, D3, zinc, calcium, folic acid and iron each day).  The best thing for you to do would make sure your barix surgeon has record of your levels and also see what they suggest you take while pregnant.  It's also important to have your levels checked at least 3 times during your pregnancy as they can change drastically while pregnant and you can add or decrease as needed.  This is the best way to determine what you may or may not need.  Good luck!
