Hi

To the breastfeeding mum's what are you eating?. I am craving lollies, chocolate, potato chips and red meat. I know it's my body looking for fast easy ways to get what I need to keep my energy going but I was looking for some ideas. I really don't want to head down this track and go the junk food route just so I feel full.

Many thanks
Crystal

Fastest and easiest thing that isn't too bad is pb & j! Sometimes 2 a day! I also eat fruit, yogurt, tuna, cheese and protein bars. I crave cookies and ice cream!!! I (because if I don't do it this way, it would be way worse since I live easy walking distance from DQ) buy the mini ice cream sandwiches. I don't have more than one a day and I only have one if I really want it. It's really hard to stay away from the junk food especially if you're hungry all the time! I swear I'm more hungry now than I was before she was born! If there are things you can make ahead or just have on hand, it's easier to be good! Good luck!!

Like Stephanie said.. Lots of healthy alternatives. I give in to my cravings from time to time as well. I bought some no sugar added fudgesicles that seem to get the craving for chocolate and ice cream out of the way. Unfortunately you may still need a lot more carbs, I know I need them some days more than others. I tended to stay away from the cheese though because it would bind me and the baby up. Making us both very crabby and uncomfortable!

I make homemade granola bars with applesauce to sweeten them insteaf od sugar. Then I add dark chocolate chips, shredded coconut and sliced almonds. It satisfies my sweet tooth, I can eat it 1 handed while nursing my son and they taste fantastic.
Just google homemade granola bars for the recipe, I think I used the one from Allrecipes.com and subsituted the 1/2 the butter and all of the sugar for applesauce.

I also keep washed/chopped fruit and veggies in the fridge for quick snacks and air-popped popcorn with parmasean cheese.
