First OB appointment today
They automatically run blood for HIV. just like at your first "official" dr appt they will test you for any STD's with your pap. Pee test, get use to it. you pee everytime you go in. Why do they test your pee? protein, UTI's, sugar, pregnancy test to confirm, etc...Yes they took your blood for HCG to help them get an idea as to where how far you are in a pregnancy. JUST BECAUS, its at a level now and freaking out as to what the internet says, each lab is different for their results. Internet info is just a "generalized idea" level they base off of. Pee test to get a baseline also so they can compare with future pee test. Your first appt with the nurse is as what you have said. The first actual 'Dr appt' thats when they do your pap, blood work if you havent already. With weighloss surgery, ask them do a full blood work. Protein, potassium, iron etc...thats when you ask the questions that a nurse may not know the answer too. As for a HB check, they usually dont try and if they do, they may not get it because of lil it is and position. PLUS if they do check and they dont hear it, mama usually freaks out so they try and not do them that soon. just ask your questions when you have your appt, be more than happy to answer.
congrats!

I wouln't mind the peeing in the cup so much except that I have to get a lab order and go to Quest to do it i they didn't just do it at the office. Annoying. I'd hate to think that almost every appointment I have is going to be an almost full-day affair of an office visit and then an additional trip to Quest. If that's going to be the case, I will seriously consider switching to a different doc who can at least take a sample in the office and send out if they don't have the means to test themselves (my PCP's office does this - they can take urine and blood samples, then just send out, so I don't have to go to Quest separately).
We'll see how the next appointment goes...
