First OB appointment today

Believe me, you will do a LOT of waiting and have quite a few appts that feel like a waste of time.  I love being pregnant, but the appts drove me nuts both times.  They're for a good purpose, though, of course.  I suggest you always bring a snack, a drink, and a good book!

I went to different clinics and hospitals with each pregnancy and I never got a surprise ultrasound.  They were always booked in advance.  I had only one that was unplanned, when the midwife couldn't find a heartbeat early in the second trimester with my son.  I had to go way across town for it.

Oh, there was no waiting. It was just a good hour of her telling me things I already knew and not giving me any new information, idea of how I was coming along, etc.

It didn't help that it was the same NP that had done my last annual exam, and I didn't like her then, and I don't like her now! I will request to not have any more appointments with her specifically. She's not mean or anything, it just doesn't seem like she actually listens to me or has anything to offer me that I don't already know, and she can't answer most of my questions. Next appt is with an actual doc, so hopefully will be better.

Bless your heart. I know you were wishing to find out/see an ultrasound today. Here's hoping your future appointments go better. Tuesday is only a few days away!

I would think you would be right at 10 weeks. The date of my last period was June 11, and I will be 10 weeks this Saturday. It sounds like we are both on the same schedule! They gave me a due date of March 17.

Take care of yourself and good luck!

It does sound like I'm hot on your heels! Based on internet "calculators," my due date would be March 16, but the ultrasound will hopefully either confirm that or tell me differently.

Sorry your first appointment didn't go as planned. It sounds pretty routine to me though. My OB the first visit is always with a nurse who asks questions, gives you info, orders some labs, and verifies pregnancy. Then they make an appointment to see the Dr. before or around 10 weeks. Then during your first Dr. visit they do the whole exam, pap, and so forth. Then they schedule you for a us the next week or so. I know it's frustrating...especially when your mind makes you paranoid( I was this way my entire first pregnancy bc it took us so long to get pregnant) but I think their reasoning behind there being no rush is that if something did happen this early they really can't do anything about it anyways so to them it's just not an urgent matter. And as for symptoms coming and going. I am 10 weeks had my first us yesterday and the baby looked good and there are moments during the day the thought of water makes me wanna puke then the next I can grub down on just about anything so it is completly normal so don't stress...or try not to stress the best you can. It gets easier, yeah you'll probly worry the whole time but it's easier when you can feel that little bean beating around on your insides and reassurance...lol. And as you get further along your appointments are gonna be very dull. Weight,BP, pee, measure, fetal hr and out the door. I think some of my appointments lasted about 5 min so rest assured it's normal and it's not about you it's just how they do things!! Best of luck!!!

It was mostly frustrating because they pushed so hard about getting me in by 10 weeks (which did by only 1 day) to the point they made me trek all the way out to a further office, and then they did NOTHING.

I'm not really stressing - if something happens, it happens, and I can't really do anything about it. I have practically no symptoms at all today or yesterday afternoon, but also no additional spotting or cramping or anything like that, so I don't think it's anything to be worried about.

Im so sorry Jill that you had such a disappointming appointment... especially with this being your first baby!  When do you go back?  Did the schedule and US at least for dating?????  That is very important since you had the week of spotting, good dating early in pregnancy is very important.

At the practice I was an NP at, we always did a FULL exam for each inital visit, I didn't have access to an US either, but I always checked with my hand held doppler for heart tones!  Sometimes I could hear them as early as 7 weeks!

You have every right to feel frustrated and angry.  I'd be writing a letter to the office manager of this practice!  Your time is as valuable and theirs!  You also ave the right to ask not to be seen by her again!

Best wishes!!!!

Ultrasound scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. I also noticed on my lab order that the ONLY Things they are testing for from yesterday's lab visit is HIV (which no one ever talked to me about), CF (which I requested), and a urinalysis (which no one explained why or what they were looking for with this). So, other than the CF, I kinda feel like the hour I spent waiting at Quest was also a waste of time! They also never told me they were ordering the urinalysis, so I assumed Quest was jst taking blood, and I didn't feel like I had to pee when I got there, which only frustrated me more. INFORMATION, people!

I will certainly request to not see her for any more of my appointments. I was hoping to escape her by going to the closer office, but she mentioned she actually splits her time between both.

All of us look forward to going in the fist time in hopes to see our little baby's heart beat and to make sure we see its growing well. Some doctors do it at 8 weeks and some do it at 12.I'm really surprised they didn't do one on  you  because your not sure how far along you are.I know for me at the begging I got pregnancy symptoms and felt as they went away but at 8 weeks through 16 weeks they came back full force when they have their fastest growing stage when our blood flows like crazy.
With my son I spotted all the way through with the girls I spotted I had a polyp tell it feel off.I know its hard not to worry. My thoughts and prayers are with you!

May my Angles rest in peace.....

I didn't start feeling any symptoms at all until I was almost 8 weeks (my guess based on last full period), and now 'm just 10 weeks, and they're almost all gone. I still can't eat much food at one time, but I almost never feel nauseous anymore, don't get lightheaded like I used to, and my breasts aren't sore (just more sensitive nipples).

But, we're all different, and hopefully, in the happy ending, I can just look back and think how lucky I was to have felt so few symptoms and not for very long!
