Ugh, I had a VERY frustrating OB appointment today! I saw an NP at the practice, and all she did was talk (tell me what foods to avoid, talked a little about vitamins, etc.) and gave me some brochures and a list of books I should consider reading. I left work and drove 23 miles for THAT?! When I'd called to schedule the appointment, the scheduler insisted I HAD to be seen by 10 weeks (which may or may not be tomorrow...I'll get to that), and she wasn't able to find an appointment soon enough at the office closer to my home, so I drove all the way out to their other office, and now I am totally wondering what the urgency was all about.
Based on what others have said, I was expecting an exam and an ultrasound. But, no...nothing. I left with absolutely no new information. Nothing to even indicate everything was okay. Oh, but they did give me a lab order, so now I have to go to Quest. Yippy.
She did say she's not sure I'm really 10 weeks along. I'm not sure what she was basing that on, exactly. My last period started June 10. I did have about a week of spotting in July, but it never developed into an actual period, just spotting. My HCG level last Thursday was over 75,500, which, according to multiple online resources, means I was likely at LEAST 7 weeks along by then.
*sigh* Anyway, scheduled an ultrasound for Tuesday afternoon. They should be able to tell me then how far along I am and hopefully give me an estimated due date.
Meanwhile, I was really hoping for an ultrasound today because, even though I haven't had bleeding or cramping, I feel like my symptoms are disappearing, which makes me flip back and forth between feeling lucky and being very nervous. This morning, I couldn't eat all of my 3 scrambled eggs with cheese, but right now I've almost finished an entire Chipotle burrito bowl (no rice).
And I came home and peed and noticed a small spot of blood in my underwear I'll mention it at my next appointment, but not going to freak out yet since I spotted for a whole week in July and then for another couple of days just a week later (didn't know I was pregnant during any of that).
I'm just so...disappointed. How anticlimactic.

oh my god!! nothing ****** me off more than doctors who WATSE our time! not to mention our money! ughhhh. the worst thing is taking time out of your day to do some dr apt. and you schedule your day around it, they make you wait, bla bla bla. after all that to have them watse your time? ugh its infuriating!
sorry you had to go through that. i've been there and it sucks. especially when they make it sound urgent like you have to come and then they don't even do anything! sheesh! lol sorry i just feel your pain.
hope your next apt goes well and they give you some info.

Thank you - I just needed someone to commiserate, and you helped - misery loves company! :)
It makes little sense to make seperate apointments if it could all be done in one office visit! My first was pretty long but they did all the paperwork, medical history, insurance stuff, telling me about the dos and don'ts then they did the exam, pap, and U/S.
How frustrating to have to make another appointment! Its not like you're busy or anything! Sorry you had a frustrating visit!

What you described is exactly what I was expecting. I'd read that the first appiontment is usually the longest of the entire pregnancy because they have to cover so much. They certainly did a poor job of managing my expectations, and I am, after all, a paying customer. If things continue this way, I'll be asking friends for new recommendations of local OBs.
Just remember also that we can store old blood in our bodies and it can come out here and there throughout pregnancy, also because our cervix's are so loaded with blood during our pregnancies that if we have sex or anything of the sort, we can bleed a bit after that as well, very common. Hang in there, my OB was a turd at first until i got to know him better, and because of my gastric bypass it seemed like he wasnt listening to anything i said i needed like he wouldnt give me blood labs to get done each month i had to go to my family dr just for that...pain in my ass lol

Yeah, I'm hoping it goes better next time with the actual doc instead of this NP, especially regarding labs - NP said they would only order labs twice throughout the entire pregnancy. Umm, no deal! If it comes down to it, though, my PCP's office is RIGHT near my office, and she will order me labs if I ask :)
I would have insisted on an ultrasound! That's ridiculous to insist on an appointment that they could have given you that information over the phone or had you go on a website. I lived about 30 minutes from my dr office when I was pregnant too and it was the complete opposite direction from my work (about 1.25 hours from my work), so it would have infuriated me too. I spotted a lot during my first trimester and it always freaked me out but everything was fine.

I could insist all I wanted, but I found out after I got there that they don't even do ultrasounds at that office - no equipment for it and no ultrasound tech. I will only be scheduling my appointments at the office closer to my house from here on out.
