Should we wait?
Hi, I am currently one year out from VSG and -90lbs. I have 45lbs to go to get to my goal weight.
I have been married for 5 years now, and children has always been one of our goals. I wanted to wait until I had my degree, a stable job, and healthy weight. I feel like all these things are finally accomplished (for the most part) and needless to say we have been hit with baby fever!
Now the big question is, should we wait, and I try - I mean REALLY TRY - to get that extra 45lbs off, or should we start TTC now?
My 25th birthday is in a few weeks and I've always said that I wanted to start trying for our first baby no sooner than that, but I would like to be finished with having kids by the time I am 30. (considering all goes well)
So, I'm looking for any advice!

Hey, I want to ask you a couple questions though. How long has your weight been stable? Are you still losing steadily? If so, I would wait until you are stable and I think your doc would probably say the same thing. If it was me, I probably wouldn't be able to wait. My hubby and I were in a similar situation (although a little oder). We tried having kids for 5 years and I wasn't able to keep any of my pregnancies. I decided to have WLS (RNY) and a year after surgery I conceived Lorelai who just turned 1. I am now 9 weeks pregnant with my 2nd. My weight really evened out about 7 months post op and I am about 10 lbs heavier now than I was then. I never really had a goal weight, I just wanted to be under 200 lbs. I view the weight differently than many people though. If I am 10 lbs heavier now than when I got pregnant, I don't freak out about it. It's 10 lbs and I have been maintaining that weight for a year. Did I want to lose that extra 10 lbs before I got pregnant again? You bet your bippy, but it didn't happen and I am OK with that. My kids are more than worth a little extra weight. So I think you have to ask yourself what the most important thing to you is. If it's really important to lose that extra 45 before you have kids, then do it because it's harder after they come. Your body changes and you have less time. If it's less important to you, then ask your doc if he's OK with you having a baby and go for it. Many people also continue to lose during their pregnancies. I am sorry for rambling, I think this is just a tough one to answer.
Also I just have to say that I wanted to be done having kids by the time I was 30 as well. I'll be having number 2 (our last we've decided) when I am 31. I wouldn't change the timing for the world. I feel like I am more prepared to be a good mom at this age than I was when I was 23 and started trying to have kids. I appreciate Lorelai more than I ever would have back then. Anyway, just my 2 cents. I hope you and your hubby are able to make the decision that woks best for you.
Good Luck!
Tina

Oh! Believe me, I understand about the excersise. I know that's my downfall too. I definitely don't do enough. I might walk around a bit with my daughter in the stroller every so often, but that's really it. I know I'm gonna have to do somethng after our 2nd is born. I don't want to be over 200lbs and I will be if I keep on an additionl 10 lbs after he/she is born. I can maintain with the way I eat, but excersise will have to occur if I want to go further.
