Birth Story and a question...long
Congrats!! What a sweet pea!! The hosptial pump is like an industrial tool....not even kidding....if a pump is going to work....the hospital grade one will do it!! Your milk supply is all about supply and demand, so if baby is getting a bottle, make sure you pump...even if nothing is coming out. Baby is MUCH more suffecient and getting your milk out then a pump ever will be!! The first few weeks are the hardest...keep up the good work and don't give up!!
Stephanie, Congrats to all of you. She is so unbelievably beautiful!!!
I BF my first one for a full year and my 2nd for 10 months. Had lots of wonderful help and support from the lactation consultants . The hospital pump is a superior pump... rent one if you can. You might want to pump just 1 to 2 minutes prior to nursing.... then each time when baby is done, you may only get an ounce or 2 (sometimes less) but after a few days it will pick up.
The law of supply and demand..... the more you demand... the more you make. We advocate here (in Austria) a wonderful tea that stimulates milk production.... I can't remember what the name of the herb is in English though. Call your doc or hospital and ask to speak to a certified lactation consultant... They are the best!!
Above all, relax and don't give up! I had my GB out 3 days after Hannah was born and had to 'pump and dump' until the anesthesia and pain meds were out of my system. She took formula during this time.... After the medicine cleared, I started BF again... and we made it for a year! You can do it! And you can get enough supply up eventually so Suzy can give her a bottle of pumped milk, and you can pump while she does that! That's what hubby and I did and it worked great! BUT BE PATIENT... it's frustrating, and takes a little while!!
All the best and God bless you all!!!!
