Birth Story and a question...long

Well...lets see...Sunday night I woke up feeling like I wet myself just a little. I got up and went to the bathroom. A few hours later it happened again. I figured it was extra discharge so I went about life! I went to work monday and had small leaks throughout the day. I posted on here and decided that if it happened over monday night, I'd call the dr tuesday morning. I did, on my way to work at 8am. They told me to go to l & d. I (admittedly) stupidly continued on my way to work (technically too late to call in even though I know they would have understood). I was there about 15 minutes and they got coverage for me. It took an hour to get to the hospital and I got all hooked up to check everything.
The nurse checked for amniotic fluid and it was positive. I was also dialated to 1. No other signs of active labor or anything. We decided to go ahead with an induction since it was 3 weeks early and she should still be small enough. They started meso-something (can't remember) to help soften the cervix. I got 2 doses of that and then they started the pitocin. Pitocin was started at a very low dose and was increased throughout the night and next day. By Wednesday our favorite dr was on (made us happy), I still wasn't having good contractions and had almost no change from the night before. The dr broke the forebag and the baby dropped even further! I was in sooo much pain and discomfort with the way she was sitting that I got nubain. It knocked me out for about 3-4 hours, also completely stopped all contractions. When I woke up, I was still in a ton of pain and the dr came and broke the forebag again (more had moved) and I got more nubain. Back to sleep I went!
The dr came to check things again and I was still only at 3cm (had gotten there after the first time breaking the forebag). This was around 7ish pm. She said she would give me another hour or so but didn't think anything would change or we could do a c-section. We opted for the c-section.
My back is on the ticklish side of things so when the anastesiologist (sp?) was doing the spinal, I couldn't stop jumping! Needless to say, it didn't really work! My legs went numb, but nothing else! They did the test and asked me if I could feel it, I said yes. They asked again and I said yes. They thought I might just be extra sensitive in that area so they started cutting. I said I could feel it. I tried to get through, but I could feel everything!!! They knocked me out!!! Suzy said they tried to wake me to see Margaret right after she was born, but once I was out, I was out! I woke up in recovery. Margaret Kalei was born at 8:01pm she was 9 lbs 2 oz and 21 inches. The nurses made a bow out of gauze and stuck it to her hat. Soooo cute!!!!!
They checked her sugar and it was 25 (should be between 45 and 100). She got some formula, they checked it again....30. She went to the NICU. Shortly after getting in there, they checked her sugar again and said it fixed itself. She came back to the room with me. Her sugar was checked every 3 hours before she was fed overnight. It dropped to 39 before the second feeding. NICU took her back (thursday morning) and put her on a dextrose drip. She responded really well to all of it. She did have some jaundice also but that's good now too. She got out of the nicu on Saturday afternoon.
The entire time I was there, my bp was up and down!! They kept us until sunday evening because of my bp.

Question time.....
By the time I left the hospital, I was nursing (not well, she had trouble waking up enough to do it) a little and pumping 1-2 oz from each side every 3ish hours. I didn't have a pump at home for the first night. Pumped as soon as I got one on Monday and got 6 oz total the first time and 3 a couple hours later. It has been dwindling ever since. She is nursing much better now and takes bottles as well. I want Suzy to be able to feed her also, but I'm now barely getting 0.5-1 oz total when I pump. I got the Ameda Purely Yours (was despirate at the time, wanted medela pump in style, but wasn't avail at that med supply store). I'm now contemplating renting one from the hospital for a month so I can build things up, but am unsure if it would work any better. Any suggestions for how to make more? Is it just because she is nursing better? When she didn't nurse yesterday (grandma gave her a bottle) I got 2 oz total. Should I just relax and keep trying? I'm not really unrelaxed, but more curious/concerned.

Thank you!!!

Congrats she is beautiful!!! I am soooo glad u called your OB! And mommy's and baby are doing sooo great. As far as pumping, I never could get milk out een though my boobs were full. Give it time and just keep bf'ing your body needs to learn her supply. I would try pumping after each feeding for 15 is what I think women have told me. Some women like me can have a great supply even over supply but can't pump at all. Again congrats and she's beautiful!!

Margaret is beautiful - and I'm very happy for you both that she's here, safe and sound w/o major complications.

Having never succeeded at bf, I can't give you 'been there, done that' experience...but I know when I tried to bf my son, he'd nurse on one side and the other would leak like Niagra Falls.  When/if I ever manage stay pg again, I'll try bf'ing again...maybe nurse from one side and pump the other at the same time just to catch Niagra Falls?  If something like that would work for you, that'd give some for Suzy to be able to participate in feeding Margaret while you continued bf also?  Hopefully a few successful bf'ing moms out there will jump in and see if that's feasible?

Congrats on your beautiful little girl. Happy Birthday Margaret Kalei!

Congrats, she is a doll. As for the BF and pump rental, I would try the hospital one. The one at my hospital was a Medela and when I inquired on the cost to $$ it I was told it was the Lexus of breast pumps and was over $500~ Needless to say the vacuum on that thing worked wonders and after a few days I noticed a definite increase in supply.

Congrats on the precious baby girl!!!!!  She is soooo CUTE!!!!  I can't wait to have another little one.  I BF both my little monkeys and had great success. The first one was the hardest trying to find out what worked best for me and baby.  What brought me the best success with pumping was to pump with nursing as was suggested.  The natural let down occurs during the time your nursing which will cause leaking of the unused breast....i hated seeing that LIQUID GOLD go to waste.....so i began to pump.  Worked great takes a few times to get the hang of the two, but then becomes natural.  This gave me supply for when i went back to work and hubby to help out.  Hope this helped and again CONGRATS!!!!
