Cord blood?

 Does anyone know how much it costs to keep your baby's cord blood? has anyone ever done this? ideally i would love to do this but i'm afraid its just much too expensive.

I thought I'd read somewhere that it's like $1500 to harvest it, then you pay so much a month for "storage". The best route (I thought) would be to donate it. Kind of like donating blood, it won't do you any good, but if enough people get to donating it, then maybe someday it will be available if you need it.
Just my thoughts...
No, we didn't do it. I live in po-dunk America, wasn't even an option.
