I am 27 weeks and3days and last night I started hurting really bad in my back. I've not had hardly any back Pain so this scared the crap out of me and I go to the er. Well they have me pee in a cup and send me up to l&d. They monitor me. And finally come and tell me well we found a trace of sugar and a slight elevated white blood cell count in your urine but we can't tell you if you have an infection and your sugar is a lil on the low side (69). So call your doc on mon.and they tell me to come back if I need to. REALLY? ??? So without anything for the backache (bc they don't have liquid Tylenol) I am sent home with nothing to show for the 3+ hours I was there!!! Sorry for the rant it just aggravated me they couldn't tell me anything thanks for listening.

Frustrating??!!  Did they draw blood??  Back ache can be a sign of urinary tract infection or kidney stones!

Nope they didn't do any bloodwork! They nurse tapped on my back. And said well if it is an infection we don't think its in your kidneys bc your back is not tender when I tap on it!

Tapping on your back is a ****ty way to tell if you have a kidney infection.  I had what drs said was UTIs on and off for year, with severe pain in my left side.  The drs would tap my back, ask if it hurt and I'd say no...so they'd say it hadn't reached the kidney yet, here's some antibiotics, take them and go home.  Until I ended up with another one 4 years ago...and it didn't go away.  I ended up having my kidney removed b/c it was basically 'dead,' killed by a stricture in the urethra leading to the kidney b/c of a birth defect.  If they'd have done more tests than tapping 15-20 years ago when the infections started, they could have put a stint in and fixed it and I'd still have two kidneys.  Turns out b/c I have scoliosis, my kidneys were not in the 'normal' position, so when they were tapping my back, they were tapping only my back...not where my kidney was at.  My kidney was down into the pelvic area away from where they were at.

If the pain's still there, go back to the dr - L&D or ER - and INSIST they do a blood test and find out what's up.

Best wishes.
