Rum cake while pregnant?????
I would say "nay" - because everything that I am in doubt about, it's usually best just to not do it - and sounds like you're in doubt.
If I do something that I doubt and there's a negative thing that happens - I have guilt - "if only I had not done this..."
For example, I miscarried my last child a few years back. The week of the miscarriage, I did some heavy farm work. I told myself at the time that it was too heavy and too much exaustion - but did it anyway because it had to be done and my husband was out of town. I always wondered --- if I hadn't have worked so hard that day, would I have a fourth child now?
Realistically, the exertion probably didn't cause the miscarriage - in fact, my doctor told me to do anything I wanted to do- but emotionally, my mind kept going there....just my makeup.
As I age, I am slowly learning, doubt is my red flag to change directions. So my advice to you, based on my own experiences - skip it because you have doubt.....when in reality, probably rum cake won't hurt the baby! Most of us born in the 50's and 60's had mothers who drank and smoked - that was before it was shown to be harmful.
