Sugar Issues Again!!!!
Ok ladies, you guys have been a huge help to me and I have really enjoyed posting on this board. But I need somemore advice. When I first got pregnant I had alot of issues with my sugar dropping, to the point that I was taken out of work indefinetly unless I find something else!!! Now the issue i'm having is my sugar either drops or it spikes to high and makes me feel really bad. I woke up a couple of nights last week with night sweats and I had a fruity smell with them. I told my OB Tuesday and she is saying my sugar is going to high. So for the last couple of days I have noticed when I would eat ( while watching my carb intake) my sugar would spike to the high 180's and she doesn't want it over 140. So my issue being is it's either low or spiking to high! I was recently put on Acarbose by the Maternal Fetal Specialist but when I thought it was working, it seems not to be working now. I got an emergency appt with my Endocrinologist tomorrow but any advice???? I don't know what more I can do!!!!
I have had 2 post op babies in the last 4 years. I had big problems with my sugar dropping too low. I don't know about the sugars going too high part, but I can tell you about the sugars going too low.
I had to eat/focus on my proteins, especially a protein for breakfast--such as yogurt or peanut butter toast. As long as I had proteins every 2-3 hours, I was good. If I ate the simple carbs such as pancakes (which were the absolute worst), my sugars would be down in the 30's 1 1/2 hours after I ate.
It sounds like maybe you might benefit from talking with a nutritionist to go over what would be some good recommendations for meals to keep your sugar levels in the "good" range. It sounds like they are way up and then way down.

good job for picking it up and not waiting to long to bring it up.. that being said... ive also had issues with it dropping and not so much spiking... souds like the med you are on isnt doing what it needs to and it may be time to step up onto something else... i really have no advice.. good luck!..sounds like its going to be a balancing act from hell.
AS a diabetic, it sounds like your carbs to protein ratio is not right. You should basically be eating 2 parts protein to 1 part carbs to balance spikes. Are you sure that you are counting ALL carbs? What have you eaten when you notice the spikes? If you are not keeping a food diary/log, that would be a good idea to start so that your medical team will be able to assist you more in finding the right balance.
I guess I should give you an example. For me, I can't do majority proteins because it throws my blood sugars wayyyyyyy off whack. I have to balance my proteins with carbs or I will have extreme highs or lows. When I say all carbs, that include any condiments or other add-in that many of us forget. I am not doubting that you are doing this, just sending a little reminder. How long are you waiting to eat between meals? Honestly, from what I have been told, you may be getting those highs and lows because of how you are consuming your food. If you eat all proteins first and then consume all your carbs next, the carbs "drop" into your system without something to balance them which may be causing the "highs". Same thing goes for the "lows". Even with the Glucerna products that are formulated for diabetics, they have carbs in them to keep the breakdown balanced. I know it sounds crazy but, I can tell you what worked for me: 2 bites of protein to one bite of carbs and eating something protein rich every 2-3hours. I hope that you find out the combination that works well for you really soon. Having either "highs" or "lows" can be a crappy feeling. My blood sugar have been in the 40-50 to well over 550. I am proud to say that with a little tweaking of my eating habits I have been able to maintain "near perfect" readings for well over 3 years now.
