Hi everyone here is my story found out 2 weeks ago i am preggers. I am so happy but I am absolutely nervous!!! My OB has no idea what a lap band patients needs are. I asked my surgeon today he recommended the Bariatric Advantage band vite or something like that today which I bought. He said i might have to add flates to it but should be fine overall on that and folates. I know he knows what i need but I am concerned with the whole Vitamin A thing, its at like 5000mcg, is that too much for me & the baby? Someone please help, I am so nervous of doing the wrong thing. We tried so hard to get pregnant and it has taken years I don't want to mess with my baby's development. I was taking Super Nutrition Prenatal prior as well as B12, calcium Citratebut my surgeon said the Bariatric Advantage & extra folates is all i need. Someone who is a lapbander help me please. I am just regualr lapband, everything I seem to find about vits is for RNY and I know that that procedure is much more complex than mine. TIA!!!!!!!!!!!

I have VSG so both restrictive procedures, but I don't have the band in place anymore.

As for vitamins, I'm on Celebrate Chewable Plus per my high risk ob and for my bariatric needs. My labs have remained stellar, and none of my levels have been high/low and I've had labs pulled every few weeks to ensure my numbers stay within normal levels.

I was taking Celebrate brand before getting pregnant, and after my ob's (regular ob and high risk ob) evaluated the formulation and determined that I could stay on them through the pregnancy. I do not have to take any additional folic acid, or iron. I do take a sublingual b12 as well.

You have lapband so you don't have the malabsorption that bypass patients have. You can take a regular chewable prenatal. I take the Select-OB chewable that is a prescription. It is a blue pill and isn't too bad. It was a little hard for me when I was newly pregnant because of the chalking feeling but I have that with any chewable. I would just chew it and drink right after.

Just talk to you OB about the dosages if you are going to do the baratric advantage just show them the values and let them determine if it is fine. Remember, OB is for you and the baby and baratric surgeon knows your surgey and vitamins related to that.

You can't overdose on folic acid. So, a lot of times the folic acid in the prenatl is enough if you don't have malabsorption issues. But, if it makes you feel better to take a folic acid pill as well,  go for it.
