DS moms????
Just trying to round up any DS-mamas (currently preggo or those who have had post-DS babies)... I am newly pregnant with my 3rd child (my first post-DS pregnancy) and I have some DS-specific questions. Also, I 'd love to hear your different experiences with post-DS pregnancy. I know that some have a fair number of complications and many sail through pregnancy with relatively few issues and I'm interested in hearing peoples' experiences across the board.
Also, did anyone get iron infusions while preggo?? Thanks! :)

Congrats on your pregnancy! I'm not a DS patient, but did iron infusions while preggo! I just had them done last month. It was a once a week for 3 week deal. They literally give you 500mg of Tylenol and then get you going on infusion. It took about 2.5 hours each time. It didn't make me sick at all. I started feeling more energized and better after the 2nd infusion! Now I feel great! If you have any other questions let me know! Good luck and I hope you have a healthy, happy pregnancy!
I'm a post-DS mom and my son is 7 months old. He's as healthy as can be, hitting milestones a little early and still nursing. I had a pretty easy pregnancy with him - a little fatigue at times and my ferritin did tank. Most other labs remained decent. I took my basic supplements and upped my iron, but I ended up with a ferritin of 13 at the end. It went up again after I had my son.
No complications - I delivered him a few days after my due date and he weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces, so about 12 ounces lighter than his sister, who I had pre-op. She was a very chubby baby and he's a tall, slimmer baby, but both are healthy.
I was monitored by high-risk midwives (they work closely with OBs and peris.) I wanted hospital midwives because I was attempting a VBAC. In the end, I opted for a repeat c-section after 21 hours of labor, because my water broke and he had passed meconium, so I figured I'd save him the stress of augmented labor and just go ahead and get him born. All went well and recovery was pretty easy.
I am a DSer who never reached goal. I couldn't gain weight in this pregnancy. It wasn't a big deal because I still have plenty to spare. I ended up 5 pounds lighter when I gave birth than when I got pregnant. I ate like a horse. Be prepared with tons of ideas for high-protein foods.
Oh, one more thing - I often had ketones in my urine when pregnant. Not a large amount, but they were present. Because of this, I ate more carbs and even drank some juice to keep ketosis at bay. Breaking the sugary drink habit after pregnancy was HARD! So be careful in how you manage that if you have the ketosis issue.
