So confused, scared, and worried....
So I am 9 weeks pregnant with the 3rd baby (1st after gastric bypass). I had my surgery back in March of 2008.
I had my bloodwork done last about 6 months ago and seen that my B12 was a little high, my D was very low, as was my calcium and magnesium. I haven't had it done, I just had the regular bloodwork the doctor orders after confirmation of pregnancy.
So far the pregnancy looks good but all I am taking is a prenatal. I don't know what else to take. I don't want to take too much and hurt the baby, but I know getting too little will hurt the lil one too. I have just been taking my prescribed prenatal.
Now over the last week I have felt weird. Like a fog. I have issues remembering words (even when I am looking at the object) I forget what I'm saying, and now today I just feel really "off". I feel fatigued (even though I got enough sleep) and just like collapsing. Very odd. I also noticed a little circle bruise like spot on my upper arm. I have never had anything like this before.
I called my doc who wants me to come in but they are so far away and I have no one to drive and I don't want to risk it. I am debating on going to the ER right across the street here from work but I don't want to be a hypochondriac and have it be nothing.
Any advice?

I guess that is what I am going to do. I just fear going anywhere where there isn't a bariatric specialist because most of the time they act like my symptoms could have NOTHING to do with vitamin levels when indeed it does and can.
It's that whole "I'm a doctor so I'm smarter than you" complex when most of them know little to nothing about your condition. So frustrating.
Well I'm off. Hopefully it's nothing.

Do you normally take vits b/c of the surgery? When you say you take nothing but pre-natals...did you address the low D, calcium and magensium at that time? Definitely demand they check them again...and add them to your vits you take. You malabsorb...so just taking a pre-natal will not be sufficient for you...you need the extras also. I'd guess you should be just substituting your regular multi-vit w/the pre-natal but keep taking the D, calcium, zinc, etc. Your OB should be monitoring your labs every 2 months or so - more often if you're still very low.
Don't let the ER drs look down their nose at you...they may be the dr, but you're the paying patient. Make them do their job.

goto the ER. who knows, the dr you see might have some ideas that your dr may not have come up with or has a better understanding as to what is going on. I felt very "off" during my pregnancy, one of the other test they ran on me for blood would be my protein levels. Helps you see exactly where you are with the protein in your system etc...you can double your prenatal vitamin. your iron could be low too. that would explain the bruising etc, i had the samething, id bruise easier, lil "blotches" of bruises showing up etc...let us know what you find out. good luck!
I am a firm believer in its better to be safe than sorry. I went to the ER yesterday due to miscarriage pain being really bad and they caught my ectopic pregnancy right before it burst. The pain wasn't super bad, just really bad for me and new and concerning. It just didn't feel right.
I think you should get checked out. At the very least it will give you some peace of mind.
Good luck!
