To early to get pregnant?
So i was just wondering if anybody out here has had the experience of getting pregnant before the surgeon gives the OK? or before the one year mark that is reccomended.
I know what everybody says. Wait, wait wait. but what if accidents happen? what happens to you? what happens to the surgery effect? what about the baby?
The reason im asking is because my hubby and I just had our first scare. (although to be fair I wouldnt call it a scare i would love the idea of being preggers) However i really dont want to go through the lecture of dont get pregnant drama that i would get from my surgeon. I just want simple answers if i did get pregnant
Will it counter my recovery?
will my recovery hurt the baby?
what will happen to me post pregnancy?

Well, I would say that two months out of surgery is probably too early by most everyone's standards. Before getting pregnant I'd ask you this... can you eat 1500+ calories a day? Do you take all of your vitamins every day and have good labs? Are you getting in at least 70+ ounces of fluids every day? Do you get at least 70+ g of protein every day? Are you able to eat carbs in order to ensure that your body is not in ketosis (which would be harmful for the baby)? Unless the answer to all of these questions is a firm yes, then I'd say it is too early to get pregnant. However, that being said, I'm not a doctor and I did get pregnant much earlier than recomended. I got pregnant at 6 months out from vsg. When we decided to play "catholic rulet" as our birth control I was pretty close to a normal weight, could easily eat enough calories by eating lots of small meals, had no problems getting in enough protein or water, and my vitamin levels were all great. I don't think there is a cut and dry fomula to decide when is a good time to get pregnant, but this early out your body is still going through a lot and the added stress of a baby can be dangerous for you both. I guess you need to ask yourself if having a baby is worth the risks to both you and the potential baby. I hope this answers some of your questions without sounding too preachy!
there is no way getting pregnant for at least a year was ever an option for me. I could hardly eat the first 12 months. Lose your weight, get stable, then talk about it. Honestly, even thinking about it now is totally irresponsible.

Well, to start I did get pregnant after only six months post op, No one ever said anything to me about birth control after surgery, so I had no clue it could happen.
I would not really suggest it but I totaly understand things happen. I was 204 when I got pregnant and I lost 24bs in the first three months, I was so ill with morning sickness all day long, every day !!!!! But my baby grew and was doing well according to the doctors, I saw my PCP and a Lupus specialist and an OB. By all accounts she was fine I only gained 18lbs my whole pregnancy and she went full term, the only unexpected part was, that she was small, 6lbs 1oz, but HEALTHY !!!! she also has gained 3lbs 10oz in her first month ( breastfeeding only )
I am very happy she is here but I do think I would have waited until I had gotten to a stable place in my weight loss. I was so sick for a lot of the pregnancy, dizzy spells due to not being able to get enough food or water in.
I had no other issues with regards to my body, I was able to eat things I shouldn't like candy, chips, and doughnuts..... without getting sick but I tried to limit it and did well enough, I was able to eat more while pregnant but after I had her, I have been back to eating smaller amounts.
I hope that you make the right choice for YOU and are prepared to deal with the outcome and I suggest NEVER letting anyone put you down or give you crap for your choice. I heard a lot of people mouthing off about this issue when I was pregnant and all I say is, it's your life and your choice.
Good Luck !!!!

Brittany,
There are a lot of women who get pregnant before the 1 year mark of their surgeries. It seems that the majority squeak by realtively ok, as well as their babies. However, there are ladies who have had major complications that affected the growth of their babies, and there are some women who have lost their babies. Of course we never know for sure exactly what hand being early post op had in that loss or the complications, but it certainly didn't help. Women that get pregnant before 6 months especially seem to struggle.
I got pregnant at 8 months post revision from band to sleeve and lost my baby. It was a tubal pregnancy and probably didn't have anything to do with my surgery, but its been such an emotionally devestating experience to go through. I can't imagine going through this any earlier post op than I was. It would have added a whole new level of stress and potential complications to the mix.
