Military Dependants

Is it common practice when seeing a military provider to not be seen by the doctor until you are at least 12 weeks?  I had to do a urine test to confirm the pregnancy (done at the lab), and when the nurse called me, she told me that I would have my "intake" appointment with a tech to get my medical history, and then from there they would schedule my FIRST appointment with a provider ("at about 12 weeks" )and then at THAT appointment they would schedule my first u/s .

My last 3 pregnancies, the bases we were at only had clinics so I saw an off base provider.  I always had an early u/s (6-8 wks) to date the pregnancy AND saw the OB.

It's very frustrating to me, because we are in PCS'ing the first week in September, and the base we are going to, does NOT have a hosptial....so once we get there, I have to wait for them to get my medical records, schedule an appt with my PCM to get my referral to an OB, and then WAIT to get in with the new OB and basically start the whole process over again.

Have I been spoiled the past 3 times by seeing off base providers?  My last pregnancy was "high risk", so I had appointments every 3 weeks, and NST twice a week starting at week 20, and u/s's at every other visit (LOVED IT!!)........here....I feel like (granted I haven't seen a provider yet)....I will get nothing and like it....at least until we move.......

I didn't see a doctor until 12 weeks either.  As far as the u/s, I had it done early because I never had a period.  If you tell them you are high risk or was last time, they should send you off base now.  None of the doctors on base would touch me because of being high risk.  But if you are pcsing now, I think I would wait to through in the high risk issue.  Tricare is such a pain with the waiting game.  At least this is what I have to deal with.

In Missouri I saw the OB at 6 weeks only because I had no clue when my edd was. I hadn't had a period in months. But yes it is routine on a base to wait till 12 weeks alot of regular OB's do that too. I had an u/s every appt only b/c I was high risk. A friend of mine was not seen till 12 weeks and got an u/s then and then again at 20 weeks and that was it. Now we live in Indiana and my OB saw me at 9 weeks and I begged for an u/s he said i guess otherwise his practice does there first one at 20 weeks and again at 34'ish weeks for growth scan and that's it.

With my three, I had the early u/s (6-8 wks) and then with my older two, I had the 20wks scan and then another scan later on to check for size 34wks ish....so long ago I don't remember.

I'm fine with waiting until the 20wk scan....I just want to know that my baby has a heartbeat and is growing where he/she is supposed to be growing!!

the base that im at has a smaller hospital and the first appointment i did was with a nurse to get medical history and basically info on what i should be eatting, doing for excersice and stuff. I have my first appointment with the OB tomorrow at the end of 7 weeks. The only thing is i live 38 miles from base so im going to see if i can be transfered to an OB that is closer spcially since im going to be driving in the winter i dont want to drive that far in the snow.
